The red barron 41
 Sorry that the CDU was a no go but hopefully the new one shall work when you get it.
Aircraft Aviation 2
Okay, whilst the CDU still doesn't work I have some good news. Opencockpits have been very friendly and have agreed to give me the full refund as they should. I'll only be loosing around
simi_av8r 0
very bad news Jack, really sorry to hear that the CDU doesn't work. Hopefully much better luck with the VRInsight unit will find it's way into the build.
Aircraft Aviation 2
Saturday 27th March The Opencockpits CDU has been sent back. When I receive the refund, the VRInsight CDU II Panel will be ordered, providing it is compliant with Windows 7 64-bit (I have emailed them regarding this). Once the CDU has arrived, we'll be back on track. Starting with the TQ, more things will be mounted. I also have managed to sort out a timeline for the future Modules, to prevent the "huge waiting" that we had with the CDU. Early April: VRInsight CDU II Panel Mid April: Saitek Pro Flight Throttle Quadrant Late April/Early May: GoFlight's ATC Communications Panel You'll notice that the timeline does not have the EICAS in. That is because I have decided to put the Audio Panel in instead of the EICAS. The reasoning for this is a mixture of financial sensibility (as the EICAS is much more expensive than the Audio Panel, and since I'll just be purchasing the CDU that isn't a good idea), and also project planning (as I'm still not 100% sure how the EICAS will be implemented yet anyway, maybe with DH2G). Aircraft Aviation 2
Sunday 28th March Just a little something to show you what's in the workshop at the moment... I know those shots are from the default Aircraft, but it's just to give you all a little taste of what's to come. Jack :baton:
Aircraft Aviation 2
Monday 29th March Great news! I've managed to pick up a lovely new 15" LCD Monitor for the Secodnary EICAS Display... For only
Aircraft Aviation 2
Saturday 4th March A little Easter Surprise for you all! The Pedestal has been under the knife Saw today as the Secondary EICAS Panel has sucessfully been installed! I'm using a 15", LCD Monitor with a relatively high definition for the Secondary EICAS. To get the EICAS displayed on it in FSX, it is a simple case of dragging the monitor over manually with my mouse (or, in some cases, repositioning the EICAS in the .cfg file). Of course, some pictures! A look at the underside of the Secondary EICAS, as you can see the monitor slides in and out: With the Secondary EICAS in: Boeing Logo background applied: Another view: As you can see, on some of the pictures a Boeing Logo is the background for the EICAS Monitor. This is because I'm using a free utility called "Display Fusion", which allows me to set independant Backgrounds for both my main monitor, and any attacthed ones. Basically, the Boeing Logo will always be there unless something (ie the EICAS display itself) is dragged onto the Monitor. This solution is very affordable. I probably spent
mike H 456
That is Great News. It's coming along nicely Jack and what a bargain on the monitor. Nice One.

alonghard7 0
that is looking great, now tell me have you had any degrees at all in it or woodwork or any of the skills needed? EDITED BY MUTLEY

Aircraft Aviation 2
Thanks Rob & Along, no I don't have a degree in woodworking it is just a hobby that I enjoy  . I know I've said this a dozen times already, but the CDU refund will be today or tomorrow. Not sure about today, as it is a Bank Holiday (but maybe not in Spain) so it's a 50/50 chance. But yes hopefully definitely by tomorrow. Also guys - You'll notice that the CDU is slightly offset to the left. This is for two reasons: 1.) The Monitor is slightly bigger than a real 747 CDU, being 15" instead of about 10". 2.) The First Officer's VRI CDU II Panel must fit in the top right corner. I've budged it over to the left a bit for the above reasons. Unfortunately, this means that the Captain's CDU will not be modelled (the dummy unit). Jack
The red barron 41
Shame that it can't all be modeled but that is life, Looking great now though Jack!
Aircraft Aviation 2
Right Lads, I've finally amnaged to get the CS757 EICAS Display working with the Pedestal. Look at the ATWC III, Leg10 Part 1 near the start for latest photos. Also, regarding the CDU refund, Opencockpits have said that "they are waiting for a response from the sales department, to make sure the CDU has arrived well and the refund delivered". I take it this means the refund is imminent.
Aircraft Aviation 2
Just an update. Still no refund from Opencockpits unfortunately! It looks like the CDU has either been lost or delayed. Royal Mail say that if it hasn't arrived by the 21st April then I should file a lost item form.
mike H 456
O No Jack thats not the news you wanted to here. I have in the past lost items using the royal mail, they have either turned up late or even been sent back to me or refunded the value of the goods. I will keep my fingers crossed. Hope it all turns out right for you soon. Regards Mike
mutley 4,497
Jack, that is terrible news, I hope it gets sorted soon. Joe
Aircraft Aviation 2
Thanks alot guys, hope all goes well. I'm a bit suspicious of Opencockpits though... The tracking for the item clearly idicates that it was delivered on April 8th... Opencockpits say they have received nothing.
Aircraft Aviation 2
Tuesday 20th April Royal Mail say i have to wait another week until I can file a compensation form. Anyways, I have seriously started toying with the idea of building my own CDU for the LDS767. It will utilise TWO BU0836X Cards (to handle the 69 buttons required). Anyway, please give you input on what you think to me building my own. The final cost shouldn't be any more than around
mutley 4,497
Sounds ambitious Jack but I have faith in you!
Aircraft Aviation 2
Sounds ambitious Jack but I have faith in you! Planning it out on paper makes it look much less ambitious, but thinking about it in my head it does seem extremely complex. One feature though: There will not be a "native" CDU screen. There will literally be a 5" gap where the screen should be. This gap then is literally placed on top of the ECIAS Monitor, and then the CDU dragged across. This is a great solution, not just because it is cheap and easy, but because it means I can use the EICAS and CDU at the same time. It is just a real nightmare getting the correct sized buttons for the Function keys (PROG, EXEC, HOLD, etc). Jack

Aircraft Aviation 2
Okay guys, looks like it will be a home-made CDU. The interfacing board this time will be the Opencockpits USBKeys Card. I know Opencockpits are still in dispute over the CDU refund, but the USBKeys card is only 24 Euros and you can't really go wrong for that. The bad side is, is that the board using something called a "Matrix" circuit which utilises Diodes instead of direct circuitry. Also, there is alot of scripting involved! Better crack out the soldering iron then, lots of tinning and heating to be done...
