dodgy-alan 1,587
Saw the consultant today, my operation will take place towards the end of October or early November. the exact date has yet to be confirmed. Its apparently 3 times more risky than the 2001 operation but should be ok. They are going to be doing a very complicated multi graft bypass to get things working properly again. mutley 4,498
Hi Alan Thanks for the update, I guess the operation will be done at Southampton General? One of the best cardiac centres in the land, you will be in good hands. Surgical procedure have come a long way in the past 10 years so hopefully recovery will be quicker than last time. All the best .

dodgy-alan 1,587
Thanks Guys, I appreciate your kind thoughts. Joe it is indeed Southampton General, the surgeon,(Mr Barlow) is the same guy that done my first bypass 10 years ago yesterday!, the odd thing was when I came too on the high dependency ward on the 11th September 2001, the TV was on in the corner of the ward and I wondered why they were showing "The Towering Inferno" so early in the morning ! It took me a while to realise it was no film!! Incidentally Southampton is having a new Helipad built at the moment over part of the multi story carpark. Its part of the upgrade to turn the place into a major trauma centre. the new pad will be able to handle up to Sea King size etc so could take RN and RAF rescue aircraft. Its location will be very visible to everyone so could be an interesting place for helo spotting!

I'm sure it will be fine - these guys have gotten VERY good at that sort of thing and the fact that you're considered a candidate for the procedure indicates a high probability of success.
