UKJim 502
Ok so I started out with a 172 based in Darrington Muni! I've recently added the Centurion to my haulage hangar, faster and carries more too! Used to find it hard to land it but now I've practiced its not that bad! So I'm keeping both planes but currently I'm the only pilot! Short trips only - 70nm max Final thought - darrington runway 28 landing OMG! UPDATE: Changed name
mutley 4,498
Haha! good luck with it Jim
Sabre 28
Get it in career mode and earn your hauling stripes the hard way :D :D jk Good luck Jim - happy hauling
UKJim 502
I thought I was in career mode? or is that hard? I might actually start again and delete this one and start again. What do you guys think?
PanzerFodder 0
I thought I was in career mode? or is that hard? I might actually start again and delete this one and start again. What do you guys think? It's not really harder flying wise, but you just don't have very much cash to spend at the start, and you only have a default 172 to fly around in . cheer's...Graham... UKJim 502
OK I did it - I deleted my old company and started a fresh with Career mode selected - I sold the default 172 and bought the imported Carenado 172 (one of my favourite planes) So now I have 32k in the bank hehe I am happy because it makes it more real now because on easy it was like 2million in bank lol Company name is still 'Jims Air Distribution'
Sabre 28
Edit - posted at the same time you don't hang around Jim I thought I was in career mode? or is that hard? I might actually start again and delete this one and start again. What do you guys think? If you've got a centurion in your hangar already I guess you haven't started in career mode mate. Joking aside Jim it's each to their own. If you want to fly nicer aircraft from the off stick with non-career mode you have way more cash for buying stuff. Like Graham say the flying and jobs are the same I believe. We both have the Carenado 182 RG II as advised by John which you can swing at the start of career mode if you sell the default 172 and go into a bit of debt. Enjoy - whatever you decide Edited January 22, 2012 by Sabre
Frog on Toast 6
If you started with a 172 then you're either on hard or career mode. The only difference being that in career you're limited to MTOW's by rank. Good luck with it, I just started the company I'll probably stick with myself, after restarting countless companies in different places for the last week or so! Ghurkali Air Services (no jokes about GAS please ) flying out of Kathmandu Intl in Nepal. Started with the 172 myself, but it's bloody hard to even get it out of the valley! TedG 0
Final thought - darrington runway 28 landing OMG! I can normally make my Twin Otter dance anywhere-but that approach is really tough! This is why I started my little company on an island with limited terrain interference and an NDB approach for the inevitable bad weather . Loads of fun innit!
allardjd 1,853
Practically speaking there's no real difference between Career and Hard. In Career you're limited to 10,000 lb. MTOW and must "level up" by completing jobs to qualify for flying heavier AC. In reality, the ratings come faster than the money and the MTOW ratings are never really a factor. UKJim 502
I've gone for career now as ok not interested in the heavy's too much! Now I need to decide a gud base in the PNW region or Australia that has many strips <70nm away! All my jobs from darrington go to concrete! Might experiment for a bit before actually starting properly! Suggestions welcome in the PNW regions? Cheers!
TedG 0
I've gone for career now as ok not interested in the heavy's too much! Now I need to decide a gud base in the PNW region or Australia that has many strips <70nm away! All my jobs from darrington go to concrete! Might experiment for a bit before actually starting properly! Suggestions welcome in the PNW regions? Have you adjusted the jobs range slider in options? And with regard to basing in the PNW region it sort of depends on: 1-How much money you have to spend initially. 2-Do you fly with real world weather? Item 2 is huge this time of year as PNW weather is usually pure snot and trying to avoid smacking into Mt Hood or other big rock piles in the region ain't easy. Although if you like the challenge (I do myself) then you will find plenty of strips to base from. Orcas Island seems pretty popular (KORS)....or maybe someplace like Portland-Mulino. I also like anyplace in and around Victoria Island too....not AH specific but just in general for flying. Get a map and start chucking darts
UKJim 502
I'll have a look at orcas island and few others, dnt mind the challenge of weather its more having a mix of strips to fly to and from at short distance! I set the sliders to short distance and I set the range in aircraft settings to 70nm Maybe its my rep causing it?
allardjd 1,853
An AH/FS buddy flies in the PNW all the time and he's pretty partial to 4S9, the aforementioned Portland-Mulino. John
UKJim 502
OK I have found my base - it is KORS - Orcas Island - I have the FTX version so all is dandy and there are loads of nearby airstrips too Just done some flights in the 182 RG II and now my balance is at -63k hehe although better than the starting out value of -78k So I am happy now - I have lots of short flights on the job board and now I just have to accept some of them Need to do a repaint of the 182 though and create a nice new logo Thanks guys!!! UKJim 502
Very windy flying tonight - completed few jobs the debt is slowly getting better! It's at -45k now! Started my 182 repaint too, no pictures just yet though! Theme is black, white & clean! I'm still only 40 rep but keep doing well on the landings getting greaser's all the time! Starting to like the 182 a lot! More to come soon! Jim
UKJim 502
OK it has started - and I also added some custom gauges into the old bird to make it into a long distance modern lady
Sabre 28
OK I have found my base - it is KORS - Orcas Island - I have the FTX version so all is dandy and there are loads of nearby airstrips too Funny that with one of my first attempts I started at KORS - probably like you because you're wanting to utilise the Orbx airports. Only thing to watch with KORS is Air Hauler seemed to present me with quite a few jobs in that area that needed a bloody seaplane. Not funny in a 182 I'm still only 40 rep but keep doing well on the landings getting greaser's all the time! Are you missing deadlines or cancelling jobs? I thought the reputation went up 0.5% for every complete job? OK it has started - and I also added some custom gauges into the old bird to make it into a long distance modern lady http://forum.mutleys...m-panel-gauges/ It looks great mate - real good job
UKJim 502
Thanks mate - I have not cancelled any jobs so god knows bout the rep! Don't matter! I always check the arrival airport before accepting a job but yeah few waterways around! I'm just completing 4 more jobs then I will be in the positive and making money This plane is staying though hehe You still in darrington?
Sabre 28
You still in darrington? Yeah still at Darrington - seem to have got past my "fatal error" problems so managed a couple of jobs last night. Nice as I managed to get one job from Goheen (one of my Orbx purchases) back to Darrington (another of my purchases) so that was good I see you've registered on the AH stats page (your rep is 44 BTW) - myself and Graham are on there as Sabre Air Deliveries and PanzerFodders Flying Circus I'm trying to save up to buy my Carenado C208 Cargomaster
UKJim 502
Ah no I think I'm going to hav to move base as the water runway situation has happened again! I'm gona hav a look around but might move to Australia!
UKJim 502
I'm back at darrington Changed base again back to darrington but it did me a favor because rent cheap I kept the 182rg so now I'm only £-800 in debt! Better than the -78k I started out with! Now time for saving and buy a second plane maybe get some hired help too
UKJim 502
OK latest on Jims Air Distributions Ltd... I have thought it would be a good idea to buy a second base as this would generate a few more local jobs and also can do a couple of base to base flights too. So I looked around and found a neat little airstrip called Firstair approximately 28nm away from Darrington the heart of JAD. The monthly rent has gone up considerably from ~£700 to ~£4000 but the locations of the jobs generated now are a lot more varied and the flight between Darrington and Firstair is a nice one I am going to start saving for a second plane that will purely be based at Firstair - maybe another 182RG to add to the JAD hangar collection. At around £200k it is not going to be any time soon but all in good time. The GREAT news is JAD has gone into the black and is now £4k up So happy saving now people!!! Here is an image taken on the flight that put Jims Air Distributions Ltd on the map... Thanks for reading Jim
mutley 4,498
Congratulations Jim, that is great news, the second aircraft will come soon enough
Sabre 28
Good work Jim - I'm pleased JAD is performing well. Hope there's still room for some friendly competition in the Darrington area. I was hoping to invest in my Caravan Cargomaster but at over £1m it ain't gonna be any time soon. Good luck with the second base.
