Automated FSX.cfg tweaks
britfrog replied to mutley's topic in Flight Simulator X (FSX) / FSX Steam Edition
morning Joe, I spent the whole of last night trying different configurations of cfg and of graphics card using nvidia inspector, and it is interesting to note that I cannnot detect any difference hardly between buffer pools 0 or 80000000 like wise the only difference between the bojote modded cfg and the "barebones" one that fsx creates anew, is the amount of time fsx takes to load (noticeably slower with bojotes version). I also tried the various setups proposed on the pmdg site by Ryan, and again can see no difference between running 4s , 8s or 8sq so I think the fact that this was last up -
does anyone know of any good italian photoscenery that they would recommend?

Automated FSX.cfg tweaks
britfrog replied to mutley's topic in Flight Simulator X (FSX) / FSX Steam Edition
having had a few recent problems with my new 660ti card i thought it may be time to get fsx to recreate a new .cfg and see what happens, imagine my surprise that with no tweaks at all I gained an enormous improvement in fps, i then spent a bit of time fine tuning with nvidia inspector and my fsx is clearer than evr before with no jaggies. i then added a couple of tweaks such as himem and changed the LOD to 6.5 and the max rate to 4096 and am a happy camper I had previously been happy with what venetubo had done to my cfg but now i am wondering if i relly need to use it. The buffer pool li -

Orbx announces FTX Global to be released in 2013
britfrog replied to mutley's topic in News and Press Releases
personally I have quite a bit of ftx aussie and pnw and enjoyed it however I find more and more that I dont use these regions at all and mostly use europe (inc uk and scandinavia) and the med so now have no real need for a worldwide scenery. I wonder will they supply it on a hard drive like an american scenery company? or whether it will replace GEX? It seems their plans for world domination are going to step on more than just a few toes, it will be interesting to watch. -

my thoughts as well! plus there are lots of really good regional scenery that will be more accurate than the ftx stuff. -
yeah , thanks for that link, i had used it in the past but the guy who wrote it is so far up his own , --- and I found a lot of anomallies as well , the latest version written by Kosta sort of takes most of this plus other ideas and is quite good. I found now if you change fsx into tower view then use the net stop nestart command line i can make my fps go from 20 odd to 60 fps so that was a great help

we get one of their test planes out of toulouse flying all around here every week at the moment, it makes an enormous noise and sounds like no other turbo prop at the moment, once you have heard it you cant mistake it. Put in a war situation this plane could not sneak on anyone unless they were deaf. it is sort of a winged equivalent of a huey

Having done much research (as one does) i plumped for a replacement to my Gainward gtx460, and despite always using what I consider to be top brands (asus, gigabyte) most of the time i plumped for an MSI gtx660TI with 3gb of memory and twin frozr fans, having seen many reviews and threads extolling the virtues of this card. It comes with a standard speed of 967hz but can be easily overclocked to 1178 and remain stable apparently. Well having installed it and not over clocked it yet i find i have gained 3fps at some airports, am not a happy bunny, I also gain another 3fps if i use the netstop/

Dear Santa,!! Can you please supply one of these I love how the planes disappear into the clouds!

im not putting the boot in just saying it as see them and how they treat their clients. If you back over John venemas posts ,if he hasnt deleted them, you will find one that clearly states that orbyx england airports will work wih existing programs, which in fact it doesnt he clearly stated that they would work with generation x which they dont you will also find a post that said that Darren and co were hopefully going to be working with orbyx as he had written an interesting program allowing other programs to link with england, the result? guernsey doesnt work with ftx england and now JV sa

yes that is a very interesting Comparison! I know the coast area between folkstone and Dover very well having flown over it hundreds of times in my own a/c so prefer the accuracy of the generation X however i have to admit when i first installed it the first thing one noticed were the strange field colours (although you get used to them), having said that they are reasonably accurate for a short period of the year, the rest of the year they look more like the FTX colours.

Orbx Releases FTX: EU EGHR Chichester/Goodwood Airport
britfrog replied to rob16584's topic in News and Press Releases
seems a great effort but why the necessity to also install ftx england? didnt JV say they were making their airports compatible with existing scenery like generation X ? this will certainly harm sales -
i would advise an 850 watt power supply.

Here is another one for you having read Jankees thread on moustique When I was a lad we were posted to St Vincent and lived next door to the airplane ramp and hangar cus the plane my dad flew was a goose. being british, one associated with other colonials and one day my Dad came home and said colonel____ (i cant remember his name) has offered us an island to buy as he cant do anything with it, so my dad , mum and I took the goose (we also had a catalina at the base) and flew over to this island it had one house on it and i remember well its name was well chosen because of the huge quantities

hi, under this title i will give some feedback to give you all an idea of my years in the air Having read allans thread tonight about the scream of a 707 it made me think back a bit to my younger days, my first atlantic crossings were in an avro york, argonauts and stratocruisers and dc7c's however i well remember the arrival of the brittania the "whistling giant" for those that are used to modern day craft the 1st class area (where we sat) was in the rear of the aircraft not the front like now! and we ate our way across the atlantic, sadly quite soon these planes were replaced by the 707 w

you can do that now!! i have a friend near biggin hill who has accumulated a load of ex raf proper simulators , a vulcan, a trident, and a buccaneer on a fully moving base, he also has a phantom in a trailor outside, this was a real phantom that crashed in germany and was cut down and made into a sim, the only problem is that it needs 2 operators to get it working whilst 2 play in the sim, However getting back to the 3d he has the graphics from a hercules sim that uses a huge screen (imagine the front of a hercy and you get the idea when things are displayed on this parabolic screen and seen

to be honest the cpu is ok you can get faster but the difference is less than the blink of an eye and would be less than 3-4 frames per sec for much more money, more memory is always a good thing , although fsx cant use it, it does allow the graphics card access to more higher memory areas especially if you are running other progs at the same time as fsx, i have seen quite a noticeable increase in frames per minute and smootness going to 16mb from 8,. I cant see any point in going to a solid state HD they are too expensive and dont offer any speed bonuses at all except in firing up windows per

I started with fs2 on a commodore 64 and whilst i remember it well I now find it hard to accept it was that basic/bad. as these pics show, still it worked as a very good instrument platform even if the graphics were prett cronky Even looking back to 5.1 which at the time i thought was the nuts pales into insigniicance to what we have today, well heres looking forward to the next 10 years

I think at the moment the 660Ti offers the best value for money, I am informed that santa has bought one for me for xmas so have to wait till next week to see how much better it is than my current 460gtx However whether you will see much difference from a 550? i doubt you will, maybe a couple of fps, i would be tempted to put the money into something more guaranteed to boost performance

Aerofly fs plans next sim, more aircraft, bigger world
britfrog replied to Jess-b's topic in Other Flight Sims
well their aircraft already knock anything in fsx into a cocked hat with ease so heres hoping the rest will follow suit. More power to their elbow
