Just watched the new ftx publicity video, which are normally excellent and by really good creators and have to say it added to my dismay of ftx england. Normally their vids are like WOW!!! must go out and buy this, but in this paricular case it has almost done the opposite, in fact it has gone so far as to make me question how good their other stuff is where i dont have first hand experience. I dont know what to think, there is so much adverse publicity and i have to say some of their towns/cities look much as they did 3 years ago , same design, different country, perhaps i will be sold when

I stand corrected, finger trouble,I should have said heat signature, I have heard a few times the growl of a sidewinder whilst back seating in a tornado on a jollie per se , and would not be happy if i knew it was not just a simulation, because they are good.
-
for info on Dave look at www.hunterteam.com another issue about sidewinders not reported was that they hurriedly fitted them to the vulcan however they had never fired any so when they went south they had a trial in straight and level flight in the uk, however what would happen if they released the missile in a high g turn was anyones guess with that hugh wing there was an area of turbulence which the sidewinder might fall into and attack its launcher, also due to the vulcans large radar signature it wasnt guaranteed if the sidewinder would stay locked on to its primary target if a larger tar

dont know if this belongs here or FSX but they certainly make a good sim for fsx www.flightdecksolutions.com/pcupload/B737-FBPT.swf i think i will remortgage the house!

probably all in the uk have seen this but maybe not some of our foreign friends http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40knj0qg_Us Whilst the statistics of getting a vulcan on to the DZ are amazing, as one of the pilots said monty python couldnt have dreamt up something better what a ridiculous way to carry out a war! A friend of mine Dave Southwood (at the time was CO of the empire test pilots school) told me that even when the harriers were heading south on the carriers none of them had been cleared to live fire a sidewinder missile!! and he and his oppos were flying 10 hours a day firing sidewi

Thanks Joe, I had hoped you would answer, I value your 2 cents worth, cheap at twice the price! Many thanks, Any idea when the new stuff in the pipeline is due?

i currently have a copy of the horizon vfr photo scenery version 3 with the 4th disk (version4?) and my kids want buy me some more, however I have seen a just flight photoscenery offer for the whole of england for the price of 1 horizon region. My questionsare are they the same product? do they start and stop at the same borders/ areas? or would i be better just buying the horizon stuff? I note that there are some new higher definition scenery in the pipeline but this stuff seems to work for me as i dont need to see if i am in my garden. your thoughts would be appreciated

win 7 certainly runs better than XP graphically so that is certainly a step in the right direction and besides if you update the hardware later you probably wont need to reinstall the whole OS as you would with xp as long as you retain the hd with the price of memory I would try to push the boat out and get 8gb though However the GTX 260 was a reasonable card that goes along with the cpu ok I used a 260 with fsx and to be honest it wasnt a million miles away from the 460 in performance and i didnt have to really cut the sliders back just the autogen and shadows If your budget will only st

one of the things that is very obvious with win8 is its abominable file transfer speed, i checked a file yesterday and win 7 is 5 times faster when copying and pasting a 400mb file. Now this was the biggest criticism of vista as I recall, would it be possible that when vista bombed that the devs were told to go back and get it right so that it could be dragged out to replace ewin 7 at the appropraite time? It is clear that win8 is internet/cloud focussed so maybe by being so focussed the slow file transfer speed wasnt considered important who knows? being cynical i see that m.s. now says w

back in the late 60's when living in the bahamas, we had a greek registered tanker nearly break its back in heavy seas whilst running in ballast from the US it hove to off the bar at nassau and a friend of mine's company was enlisted to try to weld it up , at the time I had been learning about welding so we went out to this huge ship, which had a crack nearly around the whole of the hull. we started to weld and brace it together at about 4 pm and once we had secured the top end the crew slowly raised the ship out of the water so that we could keep welding above the waterline. we were using we

sorry double post

interesting that you should recount this story as I have a friend who lives near bury st edmunds who recounts much the same stories, they were also on a tanker or support vessel, small world. i used to live near Lagos back in the early 50's and can tell you a tale or two of life there then, my Dad was a pilot so we were posted there

this is what i have been doing, i have been taking pics as i go along swapping between 1 program and the other and making comparisons there is no doubt opus are doing a great deal of work at the moment , but never the less it is still very difficult to choose which is better, imho at the current time there is no outright winner.

Hi Jess I hate to disagree with you but if you look at their homepage (http://www.opussoftware.co.uk/opusfsi.htm) version 2.6 (my version) features " live weather engine-- true winds and temperatures aloft" I must admit the more i play with the 2 the more i come out preferring REX, despite its slow start, it is certainly less disrupting to the flight when it upgrades every 30 minutes or so that opus and the much heralded low cloud/ fog reproduction in opus for me is not as good as the new Rex equivalent, however i mostly fly airliners. UKJIM, the reason I started this thread is to get more h

I have just spent the last 24 hours trying to get one of my fsx hardrives to boot up it would hang with the winows in place and then give you the option of normal startup or repair start up (recommended) i tried to repair it about 8 times with no avail, left it overnight, still nothing , eventually i booted up another drive and checkdisked it to repair some faults then copied the windows directory across as well. It did eventually deign to fireup in some sort of repair mode whilst being partially in windows, after much investigation i discovered that the windows update had updated my graphics

Have been playing a bit more to get a better comparison, although opus is much quicker it does suffer from the winds aloft and change of direction syndrome which at the moment makes it more suitable for the low and slow brigade
-
well for those interested I can now give a reasonable idea of the differences between these 2 weather progs however I must say i may have some ideas wrong in how they implement their work what I am interested in is what we the users see. The first very noticeable point is the speed of opus it is massively faster than REX at everything it also uses much more up to date metar information, (here at LFMP they were using metars 2 hours newer than REX in fact they were less than 30 minutes old) so the portrayal is more accurate. I have been trying it for a few days here when the weather has been v

i tend to agree I seem to remember some wise sage saying some years ago that it is always the 3rd iteration of anything that m.s. makes that hits a good note perhaps after a service pack things will get better but at the moment the interface is nowhere near as quick or natural to use and the changes of things in windows are much slower than win7. and being aimed at the smartphone and touch pad crowd there are an enormous amount of timewasting apps available. yes there are some nice touches but nothing I couldnt live without, i will keep playing with it for a while but it is such a fag having

Hi joe, Win 8 has got some interesting ideas and reading between the lines since the head of the win prog has left MS i think there will be a service kit released very quickly to reintroduce the start menu as in win 7. However although it is faster for internet processes than win7 there are no advantages at all for gaming other than if you use xbox stuff as this is now supported by win8 . I have win 7 64bitOS on all my drives so they can be booted up as an individual drive if needed i had fsx on 3 drives (1 is now win 8) and what I would do is have one fsx setup for trying out new programs o
-
A major No No!! if like me you have several hard drives in your p.c. and are used to booting them up independently using the boot menu then win 8 is not for you eg. i have 5 hard drives in my pc one of which is for fsx so i use the boot menu and fire this hard drive up as and when i want to "fly" as it has a very cut down version of win 7 , however if you put a win 8 drive amongst the others you can boot up the win 8 drive no problem however every time you subsequently want to fire up another drive the new os immediately senses an error and triggers the checkdisk procedure and checks all the

it is one of the shortcomings of the ftx system. Now if you want to fly say in vatsim or whatever from europe to the US you have to come out of fsx which was fired up in the europe scenery and restart it with the US scenery, then if you are flying to aus restart it again with fsx aus scenery. seems a bit of a palavar to me but this is ftx proposes

I see the same wind up going on the aerosoft forum for everyone waiting fro the new airbus, its unreal However getting back to orbyx, however it does seem that when one reads postings on other sites , that there appear to be an above normal amount of faults in this england release. It goes back to the old adage never buy the first issue of any software sadly i have seen some huge changes in JV over the last 3 years , when i first touched base with him he was enormously helpful even though I had been quite critical of one of his progs at the time, then last year i saw another side of him

Joe I take no offence, the hugh value of this forum is that it is a forum where we can all discuss things, sometimes strongly, sometimes passionatety but where we can always take something positive from it. I would hate to see you exercising your right to remove critical postings as others do, as it would reduce the value this site has, and you would not see me for dust. I have no crusade against ES If they bothered to try to sort out my issues where i have written proof of their bungling attempts, it would not be a problem , however I believe there is never smoke where there is no fire so if

sorry Joe I was writing this last post before you posted, however i have to say one of the reasons i hang around here is that one can discuss things in the true vein of a forum .
