  1. a quiet announcement from M.S. States that they have ended support for FSX questions: does this mean they have/will stop validation? there are still companies out there selling new copies of FSX Are they legally allowed to stop support when someone may go out tomorrow and buy a new copy because consumer laws dictate a certain minimum amount of support for a new product? If they do stop vallidation are they in default of their EULA? If they do stop validation will it then be legal for a person to create a crack for fsx so that if we upgrade our computeres we can still re-inst
  2. I was also going to mention the 911 issue but shied off it:) However i am also surprised some legal nutter hasnt tried to sue m.s over this event. to give an example: as reported in aopa some years ago a felow was practicing aerobatics over his local airfield in the couse of this he got something wrong and crashed on the edge of the a/f. the local crash gang (firemen) who had been watching the display jumped into their engine and went charging around the peri trak at full tilt. As luck would have it at the same moment a property developer was hammering in a sign on a bit of adjacent land in
  3. I agree Joe but I think you hit it on the head. without wishing to diss someones hard work, some JF stuff is very average, great to mess around with, but not in the same league as say PMDG so when used with a "professional" tool which I have no doubt LM want P3D to be considered, I doubt that any third party who suffered a connie or lightning crashing into their swimming pool could reasonably claim that JF were responsible and therefore liable to pay, despite being on a "professional" simulation. however the liability issue may get cloudier if someone used the ngx or up and coming airbusX from
  4. as i said time will tell , if I am wrong you can point it out and i will eat humble pie however there is no doubt that windows 8 will follow flight in obscurity as did vista and windows 2000, it is only suitable for tablets and smartphones. I cant see all you lot on this site going out and buying a touch monitor and having to clean fingerprints off it twice a day as for the announcement of a new games studio i herald it except for one thing it is focussed on windows 8 tablet development and i doubt you could even play flight on one of them so it will be dumbed down games for dumbed down wind
  5. Joe or admin please delete the other thread, I once again appear to have doubled the upload Thanks EDIT: Done. Regards Joe
  6. As some of you or most of you know there have been some statements made over on avsim which have effectively clarified their stance as regards eulas. As usual it is not what people have chosen to say but what they have chosen not to say that shows who is going in what direction. It is now quite clear that LM have the licence to develop p3d (FSX) and its underlying programs for professionals, that may be airforces, Navies, flying schools, whatever even student pilots, quite understandable, after all they are an aviation orientated company, however they do not have the right to distribute P3D
  7. yeah rather cool, why cant rex or hifi make clouds like that?
  8. Perhaps not so LM have today clarified their stance and clearly state that Preap3d is not for entertainment, i quote a response to their statement with which i completely agree as read on avsim vipgroup Yesterday, 10:09 PM I sincerely hope that LM reads this thread. What are you afraid of LM? Are you scared that by embracing the hobbyist you are going to be over-run by pimply-faced teenagers who will use P3D once, and then forget it? Open your eyes to some truths. 1. The program you are now working with would never have existed had it not been for the amazing supportive culture that was
  9. No doubt most of you in the Uk have seen this but possibly those that live abroad (like me) have not, I still find it fascinating just how far they dismantle a/c and reassemble them, it is something pilots rarely see we only see and fly the finished article enjoy!!
  10. without wishing to be indescreet could you give us some idea of how much it all cost?
  11. I thought with his great ideas of freedom and free thinking he would make a great president of the good old u s of a
  12. as another little aside to the york flying, back then people dressed properly to go in an a/c the world hadnt been polluted with americans wearing jeans so men wore suits or sunday best and ladies wore dresses. One summer when we had been back to the UK for a holiday as we boarded the York a lady ran up to my mother with a young boy of about 4 as my mother was the only lady on the plane, she asked if my mother would mind if she would chaperone her son to nigeria where he would be met by his father, needless to say my mother agreed and off we flew. Now my father never returned to the uk, so mo
  13. when I was a wee nipper we used to fly from the UK to Nigeria ( where my father was posted for a while) and the a/c used back then was an avro York, imagine the noise of flying several legs of 6 or 8 hours? by the time you arrived at your destination you were deaf the a/c back then had precious little insulation of any kind it took you a good day to start talking in normal tones again. probably one of the reasons i can hear bugger all nowadays!
  14. yeah i believe i have one taken from quite a distance Joe, I made contact with the curator of the BAF museum last year and he didnt even know of its existance, i will see if I can remember how to scan it and post it for you
  15. IMHO it is not the time to make the jump at the moment, perhaps others will say otherwise, but again IMHO it is still at least 2 years behind what you get from FSX with all the latest add ons etc, However that is not to say that it doesnt show great promise! Just that at the moment I dont see any great advantage to paying the extra fee, time will tell if MS allow prepa3d to go main stream (after all M.S hold the master key), I tend to think that following the failure (predicted by all) of flight, M.S. will have some pretty good programmers going begging and it has not come to our notice that
  16. just a bit of useless info, prior to the war my father worked in the stress and strain dept at the bristol a/c factory. under "doc" russell (i believe his name was) interestingly enough one of his responsibilities was to turn the blenheim into a tricycle gear a/c which they had a prototype of however it suffered from nose wheel shimmy. Other more important war projects would mean that this a/c would be parked up for long periods and only came out or was worked on when time permitted with the result at the end of the war it had not been put into production.
  17. This is one place I have wanted to go for a long time, the 2 brothers that own the base and lanc have announced that they intend to get the lanc into flying condition, they already have the engines but are short of a prop or two, so if any of you out there have a prop or 2 lurking in the back yard. BTW nice pics!
  18. lovely set of pics seems a good museum however that is not a hawker hart, unless it has been transmogrified by fitting a radial engine, the hart was originally fitted with a kestrel engine which over time and mods became the merlin, peregrine and vulture engines. The varsity i think was a modified version that had a bomb aimers position in the belly to train bomb aimers
  19. sorry Joe , i meant Gary , some years ago I flew him around Popham so that he could photograph it from all angles, Nice guy, i do hope that the orbyx presence doesnt hurt him , his stuff is good and getting better all the time. However despite orbyx saying they are not interested in making large airports i note their first efforts contain southampton, ok southampton isnt the largest airport in the uk but ---- I suppose Garys vfr airport series will no doubt suffer, it will be interesting to see how they compare.
  20. thanks for those pics, on the strength of those shown i would say the QW version is better as well.
  21. we had this last year and it turned out to be the power supply
  22. I was a bit shocked/disappointed when i saw their pics of Nassau (where i was born) i find the stock fsx offering much more realistic they have put hotels where it would be impossible to put a house and the road layout is terrible, Perhaps there are other areas better represented? I have been chasing fly tampa for some time now to make a Bahamas scenery , because their saint martin scenery is quite good and the Bahamas is a large center for flying, 700 islands etc with some tricky short runways thrown in so whoever is the first to make a realistic effort will be well rewarded I think.
  23. well done Joe they just get better and better, i sincerely hope that the future plans of ftx to now produce uk airports doesnt disrupt your work.
  24. if indeed fsx is so limited, no multithreading, cant use loads of memory, doesnt use SLI etc has LM prepar3d corrected these issues? if not why?
