Hi all, i think its about time i got myself a 1/2 decent payware 757. I know Captain Sim and PSS both have variants, but, and here's the ultimate question: whose is better? I'm aware that CS version is built in 'blocks' and this means you must get each block individually in contrast to the PSS which is a single installer pacakge. I'm not bothered either way by this at all, i'm purely interested in the end result and the quality of the aircraft FDE, 2d Panel, VC, animations and external looks etc etc. my system is getting on to be geriatric now with an 2.1GHz AMD and my good ol' (allbeit ove

[heads up!] Hi all, well with the bank holiday weekend just 24 hours away, here's one to spring on any of thse in the area who might want to get themselves to a fantastic display of British Cold War heritage! Also, get yourselves over to the forum to keep up with the latest. [/heads up!]

now, dont get me wrong.. but that's not RAF Halton (as implied by the file name).... it is, however, by a very special FS developer, one i admire massively....and own said persons complete series! and for the record, thisis what RAF Halton looks like... i was only there a few weeks ago! Could i guess at RAF Benson?

you'd be best off looking mate - a Firewire port looks very much different to USB.. it looks like this actually : you could probably try a PCMCIA cardbus adaptor for IEEE1394/FireWire... like this: you'r laptop, and very few Windows machines up until very recently for that matter, wouldn't have had FireWire on them. Its used primarily by audio and video pros, and so has been a standard port on Mac systems since way back in 1994! Either way, PCMCIA is the best way to go for a latop and FireWire

a firewire PCI card....?

Indeed, however could i suggest IEEE1394 (i.e. Firewire) as an alternative as, not only can it offer sustained 400Mbit/Sec transfer speeds (thats about 50MB/s in normal money) but also because of the following (and rather cool!) reason: As for external units, there are also external SATA II compatible drives, and these use PCI-E based SATA II controller cards and connect just like a normal USB2.9/IEEE1394 HDD would, just usinga SATA cable! try this one for size! Made by the world renowned (French based) external HDD specialist LaCie. Its called the D2 'Quadra' and sports Firewire 400, Fire

a good set of shots there Matt, well done. [constructive critisism] a tad oversharpened for my liking, try using a higher resolution on FS9, then converting down to a lower for posting... i.e i usually have FS9 at 1280x1024 and then convert them in PS CS2 down to 800x600 for uploading - works wonders! [/constructive critisim]

here's one i found interesting... 20th May 1965 - British Police issued with 'Tear Gas' for the first time. never knew that, just goes to prove that we learn something every day!

Hi all, Just a few notes to make you all aware of my current situation. I'm sat at the moment on my partners Apple Mac Mini typing this NOTAM, so don't blame me if it goes belly up! I attempted to recover some 2GB's of music from my trusty 4yr old iPod to my PC the other night and all appeared to have gone well. Having retreived the music, i went about downloading a well known Registry cleaner and defrag tool. Upon running the tools, and to my amazement, i was told that my HDD was severely corrupt (despite having completed a basic disk defrag a week beforehand with the default XP Defrag too

indeed ther are not, plus a certain Irish airline in their 737-800's doesnt fly there...
-
not according to this i know the rway is closed, but its still there... will take another guess! EDIT: Sticking with RyanAir, but taking a second guess as it being here - Pescara, Italy (LIBP)
-
wouldn't happen to be Shannon airport (EINN) would it? 737-800 is Ryanairs only aircraft now, and Shannon is one of the largest Ryanair hubs in Europe...

FSX SP1A released
simi_av8r replied to MartinW's topic in Flight Simulator X (FSX) / FSX Steam Edition
I also know the correct spelling of Martyn - its my middle name, so despise seeing it spelt wrongly. -
yeah was me - still going for it. was turned down for Avionics Tech as a ground trade as my colour perception was level 4 - or very bad. So i've reapplied for commissioning as a Supply Officer, was interviewed by the AFCO's SO (i believe she was a Flight Lieutenant - and that means the AFCO's big boss!!) last week, and have been asked back for a 2nd interview with her in 8 weeks. Hopefully I'll be booking myself in at RAFC Cranwell before August - so keep your fingers crossed for me!!!

i have to sincerely agree, the author really makes you feel as if you were in the cockpit with Martin Withers and Co. on their way to raid Port Stanley - and the re-fuelling plan for the flight.. well, thats another matter entirely! i've looked many places and have yet to locate one. I'm now at the point where i'd be very willing to give it a shot and re-paint my own XM607 if somebody could help with 3-view photos and a paint kit.... i second that motion!
-
For a really cracking read, and a great re-telling of the first 'Black Buck' raid, I suggest you read this book. The author certainly did hid research with the civilians, crews and squadrons involved. Its a fast moving book and crams two weeks into just 30 chapters, I just couldnt put it down!
-
had i seen these pics earlier i'd have beaten you to it Martyn, having ID'd it in less than a few seconds of seeing the first shot - flew from there in the trusty Vickers Valiant on my way to Port Stanley for a recce before a Vulcan flight with JF's Vulcan (i was going to fly XM607) just a couple hours before Mullets original post!! the island isn't very well depicted in those shots however, and 'Wideawake' looks very different to what's seen in the pictures - that's MS for you though, skimping on the detail for the sake of a few FPS.

Try the EOS 30D or the Nikon D80 - both very similar spec and very good cameras. Alternatively, the Sony Alpha 100 is a very compelling alternative to the 'norm' especially since it uses both normal (film) and digital Konica Minolta mount lenses and these are 2 a penny on eBay! one thing i will say mind you, especially since its your first DSLR, is ditch the kit lens (the one supplied with the body) as its very rarely up to the job the cameras are capable of....

I use Fuji's own XD cards in my camera, and recently bought two 1GB XD cards at just £9.99 each - must admit i got them at trade prices via work, but even still the SRP (distributor to reseller price) that my work paid was less than £6.00! so if you see an 1GB XD card at £20+, then you're being severely ripped off! In short: most definitely! longer answer: if you can afford the extra £200-£300 up front over a digital-bridge camera, then definitely go for a DSLR. The quality (Megapixel for Megapixel) compared to bridge cameras and the versatility of DSLR's these days far surpasses the cons

Hi Panos. I'm experimenting with FS Recorder for sepcifically the same things -formation flying, as seen in my post here. Take a look as there's replies that answer your question about what you see when FS Recorder is in use over there.

Thanks for the vote's of confidence fellas, much appreciated! The weather in the early morning departure shots (i think we left at around 05:35) didn't just look moody. The turbulance at our filed cruise at 8000ft was a nightmare. So we requested Fl12 just after hanoff from KBFI departures. The turbulance deteriorated further after a few moments, so much so in fact that the airframe would have been snapped like a twig, so i filed again for an increase to FL150 and climbed again - much smoother! There were points along the way at FL120 that we hit pockets of downdraught and actually lost 1200

Welcome, welcome one and all to Leg 24 of Mutleys Hangar Around The World Challenge!! On leg 24 we'll be departing from the venerable Boeing Field, Seattle and shall be taking the baton north of the border briefly into Canada, over Vancouver and onwards to our destination of Ted Stevens International in Anchorage, Alaska. Today's transport will be the ever lovely Boeing 247 flown today on a real United Airlines route from the 1960's. No peanuts or alcohol today though folks, our trolley dolly has phoned in with a migraine - poor lass, must have been the late night out with our number one....

well, not exactly.. heres the BBMF website, the list of BBMF Spit's are there. Any of those would be great. i can repaint them to be correct if necessary.... good luck to those digging the usual places, and mind the holes i made on my way through!!

I've been looking the last hour or so and have come up trumps  and found a Hurricane Mk. IIc from Plane Heaven (third one down) and also the Douglas C-47 Dakota from MAAM - and best of all they're freeware! All I need now is a half decent Mk. XIX Spitfire with Griffon engine!... I've found me a nice clipped wing Mk. XVI Spit, but the BBMF don't use these...although there are the odd Mk. XIV's that join up with the BBMF from private owners every now and then... hmmmm
