  1. On some parts of the world map, like Africa, when I get to zoom level 7 I have tiles with a message saying : Map Quest "As of July 11, 2016, direct tile access has been discontinued" I just switch to Open Street Map, but was wondering what was going on ? Do we need to do something with Map Quest ?
  2. And a shiny one ! Great pics ! Been spending quite a few hours chasing Zeros and other japanese planes in IL2 with this "forked-tail devil"... A bit heavy but what a climb rate !
  3. Same for me, I don't fly tubes but I often use ILS approaches on IFR flights. I usually align with the ILS and start descent with the autopilot, then shut it all off around 3 nm away and finish hand flying.
  4. Monday, back to work... Edit : destination was Kodiak Muni KDK and arrival was interesting with 15 knots of westerly wind across runway 20 ( gravel, in town with houses all around )
  5. Great shots ! I have it installed but didn't have the time to go have a look yet. For a freeware it's a good deal... The sceneries by Larry Robinson always show a lot of details. If anyone interested by PNW ferries : https://larobinson22.wordpress.com/links-to-scenery-files/
  6. Thks. Maybe the Eagle is on a summer holiday cruise ?
  7. In fact I just realised I smuggled donuts into Canada. I didn't declare them as exported goods when I left Stuart Island, pretended it was for my own needs during the flight !
  8. As I said in the "Happy 4th of July" thread, I decided to take the Drifter to try and deliver donuts to Quickmarch in Browning Harbour. Take off from the US territory, Stuart Island some 9 nm in the SW of the Pender Island marina. Around 6:45 local, the weather is fine, wind calm and 13°C. The USCG "Eagle" is already out. After a few minutes, crossing the border to Pender Island, Canada. Browning Harbour should be after the bridge between the two parts of the island Unfortunately I am disappointed that the mari
  9. How can you see it left on the 27 climbout ? For me it is 10 nm NNE from CYYJ ( I have a small unlisted strip called Hastings on Pender Island nearby on my Plan G map, might shoot up the Drifter at CYYJ to have a look... )
  10. For the first one there were only two people on the market, I chose a CPL with 86 %. I leave him the smallest plane to minimize the first repair bills...
  11. Thanks to a double delivery in Manston EGMH, I am now to the 55 rep I needed to hire my first pilot ! Leaving Dinard Pleurtuit LFRD and the french coast. Weather is beautiful and clear ! It happens a few times during the year, better be there ! There are some low clouds hanging over Jersey. After crossing the Cotentin, I am "feet wet" again and I cross the path of ships leaving the terminal in Le Havre. With the nice weather I get a beautiful sunset as I'm nearing the english coast ( looks like it happens there
  12. So to make faster deliveries and extend distances I leased a Cessna 406 Caravan II. Now I need to fly it because it costs 60.000 $ monthly and I still cannot hire pilots. First short flight across the Channel to get familiar with the beast between Dinard LFRD and Exeter EGTE 139 nm ( a little more with the approach ) The clean and nice looking bi-turboprop waits for me on the parking close to the terminal of the small airport. 12 knts of wind from NW and clouds at 2800 ft, plan is for an IFR flight at 7000 ft. Leaving Dinard Pleurtuit.
  13. On this sunny Sunday I went for a visit to one of the oldest gliding centers in France ( discovered in 1932 and opened as National Center in 1942 - today a classified historical monument ) It is only some 60 kms from my place on top of a small mountain called "La Montagne Noire" ( Black mountain ). There is also a museum of light airplanes with some surprising machines ! The particular situation of the place allows in good wind conditions the launching of gliders with a car...
  14. Thks Wain. I'm trying to boost it up asap so I can lease a second airplane and hire an AI pilot to fly it. The next move will be to open a second base somewhere on the southern coast of England to avoid the Channel crossings and have the first one deal with cargo inside France.
  15. Until now in Europe I was mostly into night cargo flights so it was not urgent to update my scenery... I have decided I would try to make more day flights now ! Even for evening departures it looks good too... Departure tonight from Shoreham EGKA
  16. I finally installed over the weekend FTX England and Wales ( Scotland and Ireland will come later ), and I must agree it looks better than my old GEX Europe (although I was used to it over the years...). Plus most airfields are nicely enhanced without noticeable fps drop ! As a comparison, I had a positioning flight from Dunkelswell EGTU to Shoreham EGKA where I will pick up stuff to fly back to my LFRD base. Leaving EGTU On the way to Southampton VOR Over Southampton EGHI Taxiing at Shoreham EGKA
  17. Nice pics and a large scope of planes/helos between the R66 and the B 727 ! I see you're getting into pax transport, I bet they complain more about climb/descent rates and heavy touchdowns than the good old cargo crates !
  18. I spent many years flying jet combat sims, mostly Falcon 4.0, with a lot of buttons to push and the result often being only the opponent's blip disappearing from your radar MFD... I'm since a few years flying only WW1 combat sims ( Rise of Flight, Wings over Flanders Fields ). Shooting under 100m relies mostly on the pilot's skill and understanding the strong and weak points of your aircraft compared to the aircraft of the other guy ( dynamic shooting and correction, weight and power of the aircraft, preferred direction of turn, etc.. )
  19. A good reminder of how much useless energy we burn every night and why people can't see the stars anymore...
  20. Not to worry, I'm also dealing with the black market...
  21. Thks, I also remember the good number of times I made in real life the crossing on board of sailboats, either for holiday trips (to the Hamble River, the Scilly Islands or Cork/Kinsale ) or often for races ( like the Channel Race during the Cowes Week or Cowes - Dinard right after it ) ! It was when I was still young and handsome ...
  22. I'm still with AH 1, for now I've looked from far away at AH 2, and I haven't decided yet what I'm going to do. For one I never get in early access stuff, and usually wait at least a few months after official release. On one side it looks like many things have been improved, on the other side there seem to be a lot of (for me) unnecessary and complex new features. Which means I will probably finish 2016 with AH 1 and wait for in-depth reviews and videos of the software once it will be stabilized.
