I have a really old (gold anodised ) that was the first edition Thrustmaster RCS I bought back in 1991 ish that is gameport if you are still looking to buy, have some spares for it too that I got before the original US Buzz Hoffman Thrustmaster company went under. I had that problem too Brit, both my main PC's have several drives on them and in the end I needed to do two installs of Win 8 to get it installed successfully, what I did the second time was unplug all other drives, install Win 8 onto allocated drive and make sure it was first in boot order in the BIOS then once installed add the other drives back again. Its worth just googeling a price too once you know what you want, had the normal Saitek throttle quads already but fancied their TPM as well, found it for just £54 inc free delivery on Play.com a couple of weeks back and that's less than half price, they had some of their partners selling them too but way over double price and one is still selling for about £300!!! Looks very good and socket 2011 has a good bit of life left in it yet, the forthcoming Ivy Bridge E's will be socket 2011 compatible with a BIOS update. As well as the set up in my sig I have an I7 2600K overclocked bundle but from Scan Computers UK, the nice bit about buying an overclocked bundle is that they cherry pick the CPU and run it over night to make sure it can handle the overclock (not all CPU's of the same type are equal) and guarantee it too. Hi Phil, Joe's right I've tried a third gen 60 GB SSD for Win 7 64 OS (no problems there) and also a 250 GB third gen SSD for FSX (both on SATA3 BTW) and although the SSD's launch the OS very quickly and even FSX slightly quicker than a normal HD ... when it comes to launching an FSX flight with complex scenery and other add ons its really not a lot quicker than a conventional mechanical HD to be honest, what I'm doing now is keeping the 60 GB SSD for OS, using the 250 GB SSD for P3D and bought a 1TB Western Digital 10'000 RPM Sata3 Velociraptor for my FSX and add ons install, the WD Velocirap

Thanks for the links folks, will build the Masterkit 757-200 as a sort of dry run for the Minicraft kit, it has United markings, getting a good white finish can be a bit difficult so will need the practise.

Hi Joe, no I was thinking of getting three screens but settled on a Dell U3011 30" LCD last year 2560 x 1600 res, very nice, seems to me screens are moving to 16/9 ratio widescreen now, the U3011 is 16/10 widescreen that gives a bit more vertical real estate for sims. I reckon its best to just buy a Track IR device and be done with to be honest, I put off buying one for a long time mainly because I have a spine problem and can hardly move my head, but had read so many times how this device was wonderful in Flight Sims (and other games) had been watching for one of the older Track IR devices on Ebay for a long time and hoped to score one cheaply always to be outbid at the last minute ... these things really hold their value well for some reason? This might be of interest here, been wanting to build an Iron Maiden Boeing 757-200 for a while now but the decals were really hard to find, have the 2011 (G-STRX) decals now and looking for a suitable Minicraft 1/144 kit now. I bought a Masterkit 1/144 757-200 kit as part of the deal, its way underscale though, apparently the doner kit I need is the Minicraft 1/144 757-200 and i've got some on my Ebay watch list for the future. I've never built a model airliner before or anything this small in scale, should be fun! Once built it will end up something like this I hope.

For FSX ... so many, I fly the stock King Air 350 a lot and I think there is an after market one out now that I might try, love the Aerosoft Twin Otter and Captain Sim C-130 for a bit of heavy iron.

Hi Brett, agreed with Dai here, just go for it ... I've tried FSX with XP, Vista and Win 7, Win 7 is the best OS for this sim hands down IMHO. I'd install FSX in a non standard directory though, Perhaps C:\Flightsim\ or whatever takes your fancy, some addons don't like the default install path especially if you have UAC turned on ... I'd just turn off Win 7 UAC if you are the only user of the laptop, instructions on how to do this here ....... regarding this guys comments on anti virus, I use Avast free and its fine, low footprint and virus definitions added regularly. No real favourites but I've always had a soft spot for Meigs Field because if was the default airport in MS Flight Simulator for so long, Its not there any more of course and was not included in FSX, but Aerosoft do a very nice version and I fly into it and do touch and goes for nostalgia now and again. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meigs_Field

Try putting it in your Ebay saved search and get email alerts, they don't come up that often on the Bay but that's how I got mine. Its a nice bit of kit though and unlike what VR Insight say, it can be used in full screen mode, also with the latest software you can change with the press of a button from GPS to ATC text.
