Amazing shots there! The 787's wing is just staggering. Unfortunately where I am the police move you on if you try to plane-spot, but the 787 won't be coming here for a long time!

Looks amazing! Tempted, very tempted

Product Review MegaSceneryEarth Georgia V2
GHAO replied to mutley's topic in News and Press Releases
How does it compare to Bluesky Scenery? Sorry if it's mentioned in the review, I haven't got round to reading it yet! -
I thought it was only the batteries anyway that were the iffy part of the plane. It wouldn't take much to just switch them with better batteries that don't blow up, or install more cooling. The added weight would be minimal, and the aircraft should hold, seeing as the composites are stronger than the metals they're replacing. But how did the batteries get through the flight testing without failing and suddenly they do on service? Maybe it's a human error kind of thing - the first T-tails on the first jets were unforgiving to pilots if you got to a deep stall - the wing blanketed the elevators

Ah, takes forever to download on my connection, and their HD Colorado stuff is still missing. I've got Telluride and it's blummin' fabulous until about 3,000ft AGL then it looks a little blurry. Runs so smooth though without the autogen there! I'm getting about 60-70 fps on BLuesky Scenery on otherwise full settings, plummets down to about 15 in big (default) cities. One day I'll be getting the lot, it just looks so good. But I'd love it if they bundled it onto DVDs and sold it - £1 per square they do, perhaps £120 for the lot? I'm sold!

...and that son is how baby aircraft are made.

Well, provided the wings are attached and their isn't too much explosive decompression (a la Comet) then I feel safe on any plane - I know the pilots will do their darndest to get the plane down safely, and the plane will certainly try to keep it all together as well. Modern airplanes are tough - remember Aloha Airlines B737 which landed with a large bit of the front roof missing? Some people call it miracles when there are so few casualties in a big crash - also remember these are multiple-hundreds of tonnes of metal travelling at 200mph through the air - but we all know it's mostly down to t

I read an interesting analysis of this crash, that compared the energy profile (or potential and kinetic energy) against that of a 777 that landed a few minutes before. The Asiana was too high, but then the kinetic energy dropped under the sweet spot as the pilot reduced thrust to idle, and she started to drop below the glideslope - which the pilot did not recognise since the ILS was out. As others have said, it's 7 seconds or so to spool one of those engines up. And my experience on FS with 777 is to do everything early... and not hit the ground close to stall speed, 112 knots. The same anal

Well, if someone accidentally tweaks the code for Flight and accidentally fixes all the problems with it, they'd be sitting on a goldmine, because Flight looked great and ran fairly well.

B787 Dreamliner ablaze at Heathrow, Breaking news!
GHAO replied to dodgy-alan's topic in Real World Aviation
Whatever happened, it's a shame for Boeing - I hope the 787 truly takes off (no pun intended) and becomes a global plane... why? It's quite capable of doing the Bristol-Hong Kong route... meaning for others that soon you won't need the inner-city hubs or large internationals just outside... imagine a world without the need for Heathrow or Gatwick except for the biggest of planes. -

"Sir? Did we forget to raise the anchor? The ground seems to have followed us up!" "You've come to the wrong neighbourhood, fool!" "The passengers were worried about the new pilot from Australia, but at least he was confident behind the wheel of an aircraft." Good luck all! -
How did I not know this existed? I used to be not that far (bit more than 10 miles), but I'm next to RNAS Yeovilton now, can't complain about the lack of aircraft museums! Still, looks good.

Darn it Soya, doesn't look like I'll beat that first picture of yours... still trying to come up with a punchline myself! -
"How else will the Saunders-Roe Princess know where to go when it lands? Somebody removed all the blummin' signs!"

I must add in here that hydrogen did not blow up the Hindenburg... for a start, hydrogen burns with no or a slight blue flame - and the pictures testify that there was a big flame. Secondly, they painted the Hindenburg silver... and silver paint has been for centuries a rather useful explosive, and recently components of it are used as fuel for spacecraft. There's other reasons I can't remember... but the short of it is don't paint your airship with rocket fuel. With the Hindenburg the fire was not actually hot enough to ignite the hydrogen - although many people worry about safety of hydr

I was going to make a witty comment about how familiar I am with unstabilised approaches, but then I watched the video... wow! What's making it do that? Would ground effect straighten it out? Is it possible to soften the landing enough to not smash into the ground?

...to Russia?

Naturally, they want to make money on this, but I'd like to see them give the tech out to their competitors for no charge, with a delay of maybe a year. Give it to everyone, more competition, more minds working on it. I like the sound of quieter, more economic engines.

Looks like a Supermarine Spitfire... but that seems too obvious...

Two lovely freewares for the first one: POSKY's complete 737 package yielded Aloha Airlines B737-200, here over F.D. Roosevelt Airport, Oranjestad, Caribbean somewhere: http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?DLID=173511 Second: Thomas Ruth's A340 Complete Package (freeware again), Etihad Airlines A340-600. Climbing out over Kingsford Smith International, Sydney, Australia (not that you can tell, the cloud was low and thick there yesterday it appears). Third: POSKY again, B737 Australian Air Force something-something. Flying out of Jervis Bay military airport, New South Wales I think. -
Having used all his money on a video-card upgrade, Bob forgot that Microsoft were scrounging every last penny from everyone as usual.

Darn, my book doesn't extend to Poland... well done Andrew!

Wasn't it the Belgians that used DC2s? EDIT: no mention on Wikipedia of two-engine Belgian planes... Looking at Italy now then... Savioa Marchetti S.72?

The problem for me is photoscenery - it looks flat, low-detailed, and the wrong colour... that's down to the limitations of cost for a small company. Somewhere like LAX looks great with PS though - because it is flat (although that depends on age - modern stuff is so much better!) It's of course down to the person, and location, in the end. But here I prefer FTX by miles, although I know that if I flew out of RNAS Yeovilton I would be disappointed.

I'm pretty sure the third factor is proximity to doughnut shop - you closer you are, the more the pilots crashes. It happens with me at least.
