    Rudder Pedals

I agree with Dai on this one. I used a joystick with twist grip for a few years, but got me a set of pedals around christmas. It has added heaps to the flying experience. And for rotorcrafts there's really no option.. my wrist would ache for hours after trying to master them with just the joystick...
  2. Great choice Sabre.. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.. just watch your power on apporach, the airspeed drains of at an alarming rate with full flaps...
  3. That's an interesting concept, and the benefit I think will be fuel efficency even with that added weight. I think I read about a concept hybrid car that ran on a similar concept, a Ford if I remember correctly. It had an electric motor for propulsion, and a small petrol driven engine with the sole purpose of powering a generator. The biggest benefit in that car was that the petrol enginge could be designed to run at an optimal RPM with regards to fuel efficency, and then hook it up to a generator that provides enough power to the electrical motor regardless of what speed you were traveling a
  4. Unless you've already done so, run a memcheck to rule out faulty RAM. That's what had me digging in my computer last spring... Other than that, sorry no good ideas...
  5. Thanks Brian and Dai. As for 'calves' I really wouldn't know. That's one part of the english language that wasn't covered in swedish schools. :th_smiles73: But considering that the swedish term for icebergs breaking of the glacier is the same as the one for cows giving birth, why not...
  6. Thanks guys. And a big thanks to Joe for setting up the seasons animation besided his usual editing duties.. :icon_rockon: As for the high resolution block, I cranked the LOD_Radius up as far as I could (much further than you usually can in the settings) without rendering the Sim unflyable and that's the area I could get covered. But I agree it would have been ideal if I could have had the whole country in there..
  7. Great shots Joe. Even a few sims on site to try out, most impressive. To bad those chopp.. ehm, sorry.. rotorcrafts were in such a miserable state... Thanks for sharing, looks like you had a very enjoyable birthday treat.
  8. If I remember correctly there's a google earth .kmz file included in each download that displays the area covered, airport and airstrips and points of interest on top of the satellite images in google earth. They are also downloadable from the developers website on the respective product pages. Some of them are bundled with the manual, and some can be downloaded as a separate zip-file. The download links are located to the far right on the page, just above the top row of the screenshots. If you fail to find them I can always mail them to you since I have them on my computer already. Just let
  9. You really should be thanking the engineers at Ampeg for it.. A friend of mine have a gigantic, not to mention heavy, Bass Amplifiers from Ampeg. But thanks to the small wheels on the back we managed to haul it 2,2 km by hand after a gig.
  10. Hi Richard. I got myself a ZOTAC GEFORCE GTX 560 TI OC 1GB PCI-E DVI/HDMI a while back, and it works like a charm. Cost me about $375 at todays exchange rate, but I think the swedish VAT is a fair bit higher than in the US (it's 25% in sweden) so I don't know how much it would cost you on the other side of the pond. At the very least I'd go with Nvidia, download the Nvidia Inspector tool and follow the guidelines for setting FSX and the driver up found here. Before I got this card I had a XFX ATI Radeon HD5770 1GB, a fairly competent card in it self, and saw a big improvent with the Nvidia
  11. Well then, good luck when springing this one on your wife :icon_thumbup: As for the handle on top, that's a really good idea if it's not to heavy or large. Why not look into attaching some wheels in the back that you can tilt it on to when moving it?
  12. Congrats Joe. Have a great day.
  13. Looks great Brian... :001_th_smiles89: A home cockpit on this scale I could almost consider having myself, if I had the space for it. But living in a flat, plus the fact that the FSX computer also functions as our main home computer it just isn't practical... And even if I had the space, and one more computer for other duties, I have a feeling I'd have a hard time convincing my dear wife of the benefits of it :001_th_smiles48:
  14. Just in time for the summer holidays then :icon_thumbup:
  15. Got a mail last week announcing that the next FTX/ORBX scenery for the US can be pre-ordered with a 15% price cut. It's called Central Rocky Mountains and covers 472,000 sq km of the states of Washington, Oregon, Montana, Idaho and Wyoming. The package alos includes upgrades to all 450 airports/airstrips in the area, and resides on a 10m Holger Mesh. Among other things the scenery covers the Yellowstone and Grand Teton National parks. Among the largers urban areas covered are Jackson Wyoming, Boise Idaho and the Tri-cities area in Washington (Kennewick, Richland and Burbank). The scenery b
  16. What a great set of shots, I must remember to at least ask for a sneak peak on the flight deck next time I get on an airplane. I also found that mobile phone a bit strange. By the looks of it all your shots were taken while standing still on the ground, so I do wonder if they actually had it on while in flight.... After seeing an episode of Mythbusters where they actually tried this out I do feel that it's a necessary precaution to turn them off. Even if they tried it on old scrapped instruments mounted in a dummy plane I think they saw clear effects on the HSI and Altimiter when making a ca
  17. Great review Tim. This package, and vol. 2, are now on my "to get" list.. I just need a refill on my bank account after some unexpected expences last week....
  18. Great review Joe, and what a stunningly beautiful plane. That VC must be one of the best I've seen. Love the reflections of the GPS and Radio stack in the Cold and Dark state.. Is it a "true" reflection that changes depending on the point of view?
  19. Great shots Tim. And it looks like a nice little package of airports you've gotten hold of. Might be worth spending some cash on considering Poland ain't to far from where I do most my regular flying.
  20. Great video Soya, and Paint it black counts in as one of my all time favorite songs too... Somehow it fits the Blackbird much better than Beatles song Blackbird too
  21. Well, that screenshot had been laying around on my harddrive for a while. I lost intrest in the game rather quickly. It lacked a bit in many aspects. So my memory, and lack of knowledge in English agricultural terminology, might come into play here. Might have been spelled canola when I think about it

    Threesome.

I can only agree with Richard.. Superb...
  23. Well, the standard package contains Corn, Wheat, Granola and Barley, and I'm pretty sure the icon on the right was the one for Granola.
