  1. According to french AFP today, the four bodies have now been found. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-28866291
  2. Found another interesting candidate for Aurigny Xpress and hired him as second pilot. At the same time gave back the Islander I had leased in Alaska for West Columbia Airways as you really need amphibs up there. Only kept one toundra wheels C 185 for the small grass and gravel strips. Now all my companies have one AI pilot per plane for everyday and I can replace anyone of them when I feel like it. Important step !
  3. I also hanged to XP SP3 - in fact my old PC is still running - and I spent quite some time installing and optimizing my Windows 7 in the same way on my new home built PC last November. So far I'm happy with it. All the aero is gone, unnecessary and unwanted processes also and it surely doesn't do any update by itself either. Since I don't use any touch stuff, no need to change for the time being. According to the last stats I read recently, Windows 8 and 8.1 have gone down from 12.54% to 12.48% of total OS market share (incl. Linux and Mac) between June and July. W7 is still above 50% whi
  4. Leaving Sitka with freight on board.
  5. If the technical upgrades of Windows 7 will stop in January 2015, security updates are planned until 2020. No hurry to go to Windows 8, I even think we can totally skip it like we did with Vista ...
  6. I've been many years in military sims and always used Thrustmaster stuff (sold my Cougar when I stopped Falcon 4.0). Last one is the Warthog : http://www.thrustmaster.com/en_UK/products/hotas-warthog Not cheap (350 Euros) but the best in town. If you are in Saitek stuff, there is the X-55 Rhino : http://www.saitek.com/x55/ Cheaper, around 200 Euros. I'm now only flying props, mainly World War 1 aiplanes, so my Logitech Extreme 3D is enough with the Saitek quadrant for throttle, radiator and mixture.
  7. Thanks for comments. John, it is a very good freeware I've had for some time now, you can find it at : http://www.antsairplanes.com/tigermoth.html. Nice presentation video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hemo5c_-6r8 I started flying it because in my young days there was a friend of my father who was an aerobatics champion and he used to fly a yellow Tiger Moth from Dinard (LFRD). He was often training over the sea and I could sometimes see him fly from our flat. I think I was 15 or 16 when he took me on board for a tour along the coast, probably one of my best memories of real flight !

    Tiger !

After a nice flight around my local airfield to relax from the usual cargo pilot job ( Muret - L'Herm south of Toulouse ).
  9. Nice set ! This plane is really good looking.
  10. Entering Sitka bay, back to base...
  11. Reached the 55 % reputation today with some cash in the bank. Leased a second Islander ( 1988 repaint G-AWXP ), hired a nice looking young lady called Brianna as first pilot, and opened a new base at Southampton EGHI. We are now officially a company and not a one man operation anymore !
  12. Midnight arrival at Ouessant island west of Brest (LFEC). Was a bit of sport as I had announced my position 10 nm away, and just when I was about to radio I was on finals, the plane with the lights on on the right parking suddenly entered the runway to position for a take off. Had to call a missed approach and make a go around, which is something I'm not really crazy about at night... But all went well and ended with a greaser on runway 6, and delivery of my 1356 lbs of suncream.
  13. You mean besides people? I know Capt Coffee, he is a true cargo pilot, he would never bother with transporting people...
  14. Nice set ! Looks like winter comes also early in Switzerland !
  15. Thanks for info ! My base is in Guernsey so I just get to overfly Jersey sometimes, and I installed a nice freeware Channel Islands scenery with Jersey, Guernsey and Alderney. I try to spend the least possible time at airports (although there is quite a lot of UT2 traffic at this time of the year and I know quite well the take off clearance stop at runway 9... ), so for the moment it's OK for my needs (and my wallet...) I will give it a look anyway. Edit : had a look at their website, sure looks very good but with this kind of stuff I'm always worried about my fps. For me the really inter
  16. Descending to 2000 ft over the Channel Back to the parking, time for a quick dinner before the night flight.
  17. Been also often there, but with sailboats... Le Palais and Sauzon on Belle Ile, Port Joinville and the great little harbour of La Meule on Ile d'Yeu.
  18. On my flight today from Guernsey island to Belle Ile (LFEA) - a nice island on the southern coast of Brittany -, I came to fly over Brehat island on the northern coast. It was one of my favourite sailing destinations in the 70s and 80s when I lived around there. I used to anchor in the middle bay which is right under the plane. FSX can be a time machine sometimes ! and how it is really :
  19. Jeez, winter sure comes early this year up there !
  20. Compass and clock can be useful if the fancy electronic GPS goes down. On the Islander there are two chronometers on the ADF stack. Same on boats, everyone now has a GPS, but paper maps, a compass and a clock are part of the "must have" stuff. In my birth town of Saint Malo, there is a submersing wall outside the yacht harbour to keep enough water at low tides (we have the second most important tides of the world after the bay of Fundy in Canada. We can have up to 13 meters difference between the high tide and the low tide). So there is a huge electronic panel which indicates how much
  21. Good luck to the new company... I will keep on flying in BC / Alaska next winter, landscapes are beautiful at that time when the WX allows flying. But I also plan to discover NZ fabulous landscapes sometimes once I have installed ORBX NZ ( could be a good idea for a Xmas present... )
  22. Nice flip on first pic ! Hope there was nothing fragile on board...
