Product Review New Review - Aerosoft Iceland X

Nice review. :001_th_smiles89: I liked the changing seasons picture, although it's a shame you couldn't get the whole country into the higher resolution block - a limitation of the sim I guess. I might try something similar for Tanzania... -
Plan-G will tell you the range of VORs & NDBs - just hover the mouse over it and it's displayed in the tooltip. Rich: Yes you will need to rotate the OBS dial each time. Crossed bearings is a standard triangulation technique, but you'd typically only do it during every other FREDA check, unless you particularly needed a more frequent fix.
-
Yes. Because the nav data in Plan-G comes *from* FSX. But you need to be sure that what you have tuned is a VOR. A VOR in Plan-G is drawn as a blue hexagon. If the navaid you have tuned is a blue square it is a DME and not a VOR (so you will see no deflection of the OBS). Many VORs and DMEs are co-located with a common frequency, and so you will see both symbols, ie a hexagon in a square. But there are also many VORs with no DME and many DMEs with no VOR. Standalone DMEs are typically associated with instrument approaches, and will generally be colocated with an NDB or an ILS localiser. Als

In theory it would be finished. But the Simkits instruments have proved so unreliable (and their "support" is nonexistent - diabolical considering what these things cost) that I'm gritting my teeth and looking for replacements. The altimeter is my first priority, since I currently have a gaping hole there. I'm tempted by FlightIllusion, since they use Stepper motors rather than servos (much quiteter & smaller), & seem to be much better contructed. But I'm open to suggestions.

Since everybody is showing theirs, this is mine: It's basically an overglorified monitor stand! It's split into three panels, and each one can be removed/worked on separately. This is an early lighting test. I'm using EL tape fitted under the 'coaming' to give a floodlight effect. This gives a very realistic 'flood' effect, just like the Diamond DA40 I did my night rating in. The electroluminescent tape actially came from a PC modding kit, which worked out a lot cheaper than any of the custom suppliers! At this point I was using MDF for the panel, but it turned out not to be man enoug for

Traffic X Spottie joins Mutley Crew...

Beats me. No, seriously, he beats me -- he's standing on the other side of the fence, for one thing! -
My first ever flight in an aeroplane was on a Dan Air Comet 4 in January 1977. Fortunately the landing was better!

Standard Orbx policy is that pre-orders are taken no more than six weeks before release.

I'll bet he doesn't get told off for having his mobile phone on! Picture 6 is a bit, um, unfortunate though!

There's a long backtrack at Southampton to get to the threshold when lining up. FS doesn't really cope well with that kind of situation, since it assumes that aircraft will enter the runway behind the previous departing aircraft. And that isn't always the case as we see here. RW, the clearance would be conditional, viz "After the departing Bonanza, line up.", meaning you wait for the other plane to go past before entering the runway. And, as needles said, good airmanship dictates that you maintain situational awareness and don't enter the runway while someone else is using it.

No wonder the back end of your plane is brown... :th_smiles73:

Thanks Dai, I'll check it out

It's largely a matter of practice until it becomes second nature. Eventually you'll be making minor adjustments without even noticing -- just like keeping a car on the road going in a straight line. The big tendency, especially when you're starting out, and particularly if it's bumpy, is to over control. Remember it takes a while for the aircraft to settle down to whatever adjustment you've made, so don't be too quick to tweak it some more. The less you tweak, the more stable it will become. Generally, so long as the plane is roughly in trim, you can let go of the controls and it will settle

All we need now is Goose Bay and the Labrador coast, and the North Atlantic Corridor will have end to end scenery

Product Review New Review - FTX Cushman Meadows

I see from the Orbx forum that the v1.1 patch has now been released. :001_th_smiles89: -
Very interesting, and thanks for the photo too. What determined how many strips and how long they were? I can see judicious use of sellotape, so it's not simply what was on one map. Also, how did you handle course changes? or was that the cue for a new strip?

I have a show on in November, but I don't know the dates. So I can't commit yet.

Watch out for the review...

Actually, FS makes quite a good job of the pronounciation. Mind you, the only guide I have for comparison are the voice clips on Wikipedia... "Dee see too" "Dug lass" "Rye Ann Air" "Bo wing" and of course Port Lotniczy Gdańsk-Rębiechowo 'Lech Wałęsa' and Katowice-Pyrzowice :icon_thumbup:

I told my cousin who lives in Albury-Wodonga about it (she's not remotely interested in planes or aviation), and she'd never heard about it, but thought it was absolutely fabulous!
