  1. Further to my "On this day" about a month ago here are some more anniversaries.. Today: 1880 - Comic Genius Stan Laurel was born as Arthur Stanley Jefferson in Ulverston Lancashire. (That's another fine mess ...) 1948 - The Cathay Pacific Airways Catalina flying boat "Miss Macao" on a flight to Hong Kong was the first plane to be hijacked. She was hijacked a few minutes after take off by four men, carrying guns, one of who demanded that the pilot surrender the controls. The pilot refused and was shot. As the pilot collapsed onto the flight controls the plane went into an uncontrolled dive
  2. Thanks John, that will certainly help with my VFR! Cheers
  3. oooh! Thanks Matt, I think these programs are un-missable, it brings out the morbid curiosity in us all  Cheers
  4. Thanks for your reply John, It could be the MoBo, it could be the BIOS, the problems I have experienced have been so obscure and unattached I cannot form a link. Truth be told I think I have covered all angles I can think of and looking on the web there are so many instances of exactly the same problem leads one to think that this a wider issue. I know Martyn has been running Vista on his laptop, I am guessing he may have and ATI graphics card? Ah the good old days of Windows 95  Cheers
  5. Hello peeps, Ask me if I had a good holiday? The answer is I can't remember.. Sure we did loads of things but the one thing that stands out is spending what must be 4 days now trying to get my flight sim to work on Vista and nVidia. This is the related Microsoft article to what I am experiencing... http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/di ... meout.mspx Which basically explains amongst other things that if I had XP or a lesser OS than Vista then the machine would freeze and re-boot now it gives a message and sort of carries on going. Big deal, it still renders some programs unusable. An

    How many FPS?

Sorry for the late reply panos, it's because I have been having so many problems with Vista :sadblinky: I started off with 64 bit and on it's own it is b-e-a- utiful! But there are some issues I feel running some 32 bit apps. Also I still haven't cured the problem with the nVidia drivers for Vista 32 or 64 bit and the constant messages with "Display driver has stopped responding and has recovered" nvlddmkn so at the moment when I run FSX it's a nightmare so it will take a while for me to sort it I expect. Good luck with your new rig. Cheers
  11. Hi Simi, I have just checked Firefox, you can organise the tabs by dragging them left and right along the tabs. If you drag them to the desktop then it creates a shortcut to the page rather than opening another window which in my eyes makes more sense as you already have that tab open in the browser. Don't get me wrong, I like Apple software and hardware but I hold them in the same regard as I do Microsoft. (I will say no more) The only exception to that rule for me is iPod, I have a measly Nano 4Gb, and that's because the doctor recommended it to help with my tinnitus but I cannot fault
  12. Hi John, I'm really pleased to hear that the fires are abating although the rainy season is not so good news. Still, if you're in the hot tub or the pool it doesn't really matter! I really enjoy a good light show from the weather too This was one of those questions I forgot to go and research although I knew about the provider, sorry John. Cheers

    How many FPS?

Good luck Panos and good luck with Vista Ultimate, I got it today and have installed the 64 bit version and I am having a few problems with nVidia display drivers, if I find out what the cure is I will post it in this forum :mrhappy: Cheers
  14. Hi Simi, Thanks for the HU  I went and had a look at this and it's nice, very nice, but I think I just cannot let go of my beloved Firefox for the time being. I've just got it working the way I want it and that's good for Vista :mrhappy: Maybe soon. Cheers
  15. Be careful of him John, he lives in Wales :poster_oops:
  16. Excellent Martyn, Well done for getting the memorial in, that's just what we wanted :mrhappy: Some great shots as ever and with a nice twist at the end. I am just in mid re-install of FSX in Vista 64bit and having a few problems with the nVidia display driver. Am I right in thinking you are using Vista on your laptop? Cheers
  17. Nice one Sam, It feels like the start to a horror movie. :mrhappy:
  18. Hi reef, Thanks for popping in to say hello, we're looking forward to seeing some of your excellent shots. There's a much underused Edits section which if you are feeling really artistic you can post any edited work preferably aviation based. We have a couple of ongoing guess the screenshot threads and I think I will try to get a themed screenshot contest up and running again and not forgetting (As I often do) the screen shot of the week. There's always the Around The World Challenge if you would like to join in where screenshots and narrative of your flight help in getting the baton aroun

    Doctor What?

John, I think the answer is William Hartnell the original "Doctor Who". It was (is) a cult British TV series. http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/classic/ ... ndex.shtml Nice try though :mrhappy: Cheers,
