The Great Australian Air Rally 2011 - GAAR 2011
ddavid replied to ddavid's topic in MHFC Captains Lounge
Well, it's an ill wind that... You can post GAAR Leg 2 here - or, we could start a new thread, say, "GAAR 2011 PIREPs"? Maybe having a separate thread would make organisation easier? And Thanks for making a start, Joe! If no-one else wants to do it, I'll do Leg 1... Cheers - Dai. -

At 29 minutes, he wasn't pedalling hard enough! BTW, where is the Boss? On the 2-D Panel front, I've edited in the DC Airways panel - it's got a great Timer, too - as well as having decent direction finding instruments (Oh No - Don't get him started on that! - Ed)... Cheers - Dai. -

Thanks Rob! I'm not sure, but I think Joe's time may be a bit on the looong side (!) - maybe he used an old Harrison Chronometer... Cheers - Dai. -
Thanks John - now, where can I find a few minutes?!? Cheers - Dai.

Thanks, Joe - have just received a message in a bottle from young Aidan - seems this week has capsized on him, but next week bodes well... So he's happy to remain on the GAAR Roster. Now, Rob Scott has said he'd 'fill in', but we still need some more recruits for the remaining Legs. C'mon Lads - let's be hearing from you! Cheers - Dai. -
Excellent shots, Tim - and nice flying ... er Smudge! Thanks for sharing. BTW, out tyres are still holding up - so far! Cheers - Dai. :cool

Hey - an ILS without an OBS knob - thanks for showing us that, Jack! I've been giving JF stick for the similar one in their DC-3! Now I'd better eat my words, eh?!? BTW, ever come across instruments by Negretti and Zambra? They'd be oil-pressure or temperature, I think... Cheers - Dai. -

Thanks Kieran - that'd be fine if you could, mate! I guess you'd choose a Leg to suit you. Look at the detailed flight plan. Start out and record the time at Take Off. Complete the Leg as per instructions - there are one or two touch and go's, so forth. Land at your destination and record the time again. This is important as we'll need the time to fly the Leg to be submitted to the organisers. Remember, this is a Rally, and we've selected the DC-3 flying at 140 KIAS, so our Flight Times will be checked against this datum, I think. Post your flight time with as many screen shots as you want, -
That lloks great, Boss! ORBX have done a lovely job... And - as tou're in the area, how's about Leg 2 of the GAAR?!? Cheers - Dai.

Here's an update on GAAR 2011: 1. You can now download all the flight file informatio required for each Leg of the Rally from here. 2. Nearly 50 registrations have been received so far - our team is registered as Mutley's Hangar. 3. We'll be flying a DC-3 - you can choose your own model - i.e. default, Just Flight, MAAM, etc 4. If you join the Hangar team you can choose which Leg you'd like or, if you prefer... 5. You can register individually and complete the Rally in whichever vintage aircraft you like. Here's an updated route map showing more details of waypoints, etc: Thanks for b -
I guess another option would be to SAVE your flight at regular intervals - just in case. I think there is a way to resume an AH flight from a SAVED position, but I'm not 100% sure. Maybe John will confirm this? Cheers - Dai.

John - Thanks for explaing this work round. I hope it's O.K. to PIN this topic and to change the title a bit ( sorry Troy!!) to make it more self explanatory? Cheers - Dai.

Way to go, E.J. - Air Hauler was never such fun... Cheers - Dai. P.S. 200 lb sheep - those were some animals, mate!

All I can say is... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNxc22w0810 Thanks for the Magic Carpet Ride (ATW055) to The Best Hangar On The Planet! Welcome Home, indeed! Cheers - Dai. P.S. You ain't seen nuthin' yet... P.P.S. Couldn't you hear the singing... He called the greatest archers to a tavern on the green. They vowed to help the people of the king. They handled all the trouble on the English country scene, And still found plenty of time to sing. ... All Together Now...

Excellent, Andrew - but how about this... Electric, but not bad, eh? Cheers - Dai.

Well, what a professional job - you haven't lost the Master's touch, Boss! And the narrative - just right - especially papering over the cracks between photo-default-photo scenery. That weather forecast came in handy. By the way, did you forget the pitot tube heater?!? With the last part coming up, I'm starting to get blurred vision (Must be the Newcastle Brown! - Ed) - Go for it, Joe! Cheers - Dai. P.S. Thanks for the 10-Minute Taxi H.U. - excellent stuff...
-
Now then, E.J., Duncan's a canny designer - maybe he has slipped this in without telling anyone! But John, who knows all there is to know about Air Hauler - he was involved in both alpha and beta testing - will certainly enlighten us... Glad you like A.H. - it's still my favourite app. Unfortunately, I don't get as much time with it as I'd like. Cheers - Dai.

Sorry to have confused anyone! We'll be entering a team if there are enough interested - and we can agree on a single aircraft... But - anyone can enter on their own if they'd prefer. Rob and I thought it'd be an opportunity to try a team effort from the Hangar. Hope that makes more sense! So far the team is: 1. Rob 2. E.J. 3. Dai I'll add more as we recruit. Cheers - Dai. -
