I was wondering what would happen with the Alaska scenery if I strayed into Canada, so I decided to fly the Cub from Skagway to Yakutat direct. This route crosses a big chunk of Canada and I could use the Yakutat VOR radial to fly direct and then test the ILS at Yakutat on arrival. All that ahead is Canada... ...as you can see from the map. All the green bit is Alaska. I have dialled in the frequencies for Yakutat VOR and Yakutat ILS for runway 11. I will work the VOR till I am overhead Yakutat...We have 253 nms to go. These Canadian mountains... ...look pretty nice. Now w

Yes Joe...every tree and building has a shadow that moves with the Sun and falls on your aircraft if it in the right place...In the later evening, if you park in tree shadows they will move with the Sun every few seconds and will also move back and forth with the wind. Clouds can block out the Sun and so can terrain so one side of a mountain can be in shade because of itself and on that side the trees will have no shadows. In that video the Sun is on the left and the near mountain sides are in shade and only the trees along the tops that catch the Sun cast shadows and you can see the cowling

Today I flew the Carbon Cub from Ketchikan to Skagway. I took some video on the way and here it is. The video runs for a bit over 12 minutes and it is of HD quality so click the resolution up to 1080p and then click the "Full Screen" icon at bottom right. Set the sound volume about halfway. Thanks for looking BTW...I reached Skagway in the evening and those viewers with the patience to sit through about 12 minutes may be interested to see how the lengthened tree shadows play on the aircraft on the runway Thanks for looking

Here is something I wrote elsewhere:- I guess I'm a member of a pretty exclusive club...The CCC...Carbon Cub Club. I'm the founder member and at the moment I'm flying it from Sitka to Skagway...Over the mountain range behind Sitka then down into the very long fjord that runs all the way to Skagway...I'm flying at about 1000 feet and really enjoying the best scenery I've seen in Flight Simulation...I'm about halfway there now and have a VOR tuned (seven sisters SSR) and it is showing on the OBS. I've just saved the flight and will continue tomorrow. Alaska is very very big and will give me a l

Well FLIGHT is now history so I guess I'm one of the very few who bought the Carbon Cub...I will continue to enjoy it and the other deluxe aircraft in Alaska and Hawaii but I was so looking forward to future developments Here's their official statement: Microsoft Studios is always evaluating its portfolio of products to determine what is best for gamers, families and the company, and this decision was the result of the natural ebb and flow of our portfolio management. Many factors were considered in the difficult decision to stop development on "Microsoft Flight" and "Project Columbia," but

No it is just the aeroplane Sam, with two repaints...The old free panel less cub that came with Alaska remains as is. I have no idea how much 1200 thingys is but I like the aeroplane. I will copy and paste some comments I made elsewhere:- If you look at the last but one picture...close up of main instruments, you will see the localiser needle is displaced. I had just done a LOC/DME approach to Sitka (there is no glidepath here but will check when I get an airport with full ILS). There are lots of navaids around Alaska. You just have to tick the box on the MAP to make them all show. Then if yo

Here is FLIGHT's Deluxe version of the Carbon Cub:- Thanks for looking

Thanks Hurricane...Here are some more from today:- Continuing... On our way again, to call in at Port Walter, on the way to Sitka. Here is Port Walter and I'm positioning to land into wind and not have far to taxy in. Well that went wrong as I finished landing crosswind! Well I parked on the beach at the exact position on the map and walked up into the trees. I got a bit disorientated up there and it took me a while to find my aeroplane! Taking off into wind this time... ...and setting course to cut through this landmass at... ...Port Lucy... ...It runs almost right

Thanks Charlie

On our way again... ...towards... ...a Seaplane Base... ...called... ...Hollis. Where I found a nice beach... ...to park on. Away again now with a crosswind take-off on route to... ...Hydaburg SPB and... ...another nice beach. Hydaburg. Hydaburg. Hydaburg. This next SPB is called "Waterfall"... ...for obvious reasons. Waterfall. Waterfall. Taking off again now with another crosswind as I head for... ...an SPB called "Craig". Craig. Craig. I've moved on now to another beach at another SPB called "Klawock". And here I have just ta

Thanks for your comments Gents

One little mod they could make is to the walking and running sounds...They could be "Splashy" if in water

Thanks Joe and Brett, Yes, I am enjoying the adventure and the map reading with my iPad...It takes me back to my fighter pilot days when the map on the lap was all we had. The Icon is like that and is only designed for VFR navigation. What a difference it is to have the iPad map to scroll with a finger as opposed to a paper strip map folded concertina style on your lap.

Here are a few highlights of my continuing tour:- Approaching Wrangell On final. I could not get fuel at this location but a managed to fill up when I was on the runway! This nearby anchorage is where I made the video "Reflections". Here is another nearby anchorage... The map tends to lead you onto this hardstanding... ...Where I got out to stretch my legs... ...and take the odd photo. Away again and heading for Ketchikan. Ketchikan and a small top up of fuel. Ketchican the town and port. Ketchican Marina. The Ketchikan SPB is marked here. The map show

Beached near Ketchikan, I decided to paddle for a bit...The water was very cold! This is a very short HD video (72 secs) so click the resolution up to 1080p and then click the "Full Screen" icon at bottom right. Turn the sound volume up for the wind! Thanks for looking Thanks for looking

Brass monkeys come to mind Joe! I wasn't really conscious of how good the reflections are till I was watching this scene and I could not really show that on a screenshot so I made this very short video...I like the trees waving in the wind as well. You can also hear a particularly loud gust of wind and see the Icon react to it at one point in the video

I was visiting a Seaplane Base today and parked on the slip, but it was slippery and the wind blew me back down into the water. I noticed that the reflections looked good in the shallow sandy water so I made this 45 second video of them. This is an HD video so click the resolution up to 1080p and then click the "Full Screen" icon at bottom right. Turn the sound volume up for the wind! Thanks for looking

I moved to Entrance Island SPB yesterday and discovered an error in its location:- Here I am beached at Entrance Island SPB according to the FLIGHT map...with the map fully zoomed in the aircraft is in the Anchor Pink Spot. Here is the Overhead View from that same screenshot image...The white cross is the aircraft and as you can see it is not at the island but on a peninsula. Here is the Google Earth map showing the Entrance Island SPB. And here I have repositioned the aircraft to the correct location. Here is the aircraft in the correct location in Spot View Thanks for looking

Here is the Carbon Cub that comes included in the Alaska Pack...I look forward to flying it when it has its Virtual Cockpit, which I believe will shortly be offered for download:- Thanks for looking

Today, I moved from Taku Lodge to Taku Harbour...About a half hour flight. I beached the Icon there and took a few photos of it:- Beached at Taku Harbour which in a well protected inlet. The exit from the harbour is to the left of this picture. The rest of these shots are devoted to my favourite Icon. Note the "Sawtooth" leading edge...Exactly like the later marks of Hunter. Note also the many differing shapes of the pine trees. The tail design. The propeller follows the modern fashion of having the most curved edge as the leading edge rather than the older trailing edge.

I just heard this from someone who knows:- "Keep up with the times; the VC for the Carbon Cub is next up on the DLC Buffet!" I look forward to the "Deluxe" version of the Carbon Cub

Thanks Joe, The intention is to visit every airfield and seaplane base in FLIGHT's Alaska...That is a LOT of touring!

I don't know Dai....That is not my picture...It is one that Britfrog was trying to post above...I tried to get it to post using his URL but in the end I was only able to post it by copying it to my server and posting in the usual way from there.

Here are a bunch of shots that I took today as I continue my tour:- Continuing on from Juneau Airport I dropped into Juneau Harbour which has a seaplane landing area. Taking off again to do a fly around... ...crossing the container port... ...and passing the little town on my left (Juneau)... ...and here is one of the two marinas. Setting course now for my next port of call. The direct way to it is mountainous so I am climbing. Cresting a ridge I start a dive back down towards my objective. There is the runway ahead, jutting out into the water. I'm still diving as
