  1. Another superb insight into the inner workings of a modern airliner!
  2. Reminds me of the ERJ-135 and 737-800 collision over Brazil (http://aviation-safety.net/database/record.php?id=20060929-1). In that case TCAS was accidently turned off by the crew of the Embraer due to a poor design. Sad to hear about the loss of the HS-125 there. Especially because of what it was carrying
  3. Is G-VIIO, 777-236ER new in January 1999 with GE90-85B engines. At least everyone got out reasonably OK (as expected)
  4. Ex Irish Aer Corps 159 Matt - according to the CAA, there are at least 6 twin seat Spitfires: G-AIDN, MT818, Spitfire VIII G-BMSB, MJ627, Spitfire IX.T G-CCCA, PV202, Spitfire IX.T (IAC 161) G-CTIX, PT462, Spitfire T.IX(Mod) G-ILDA, SM520, Spitfire T.IX G-TCHI, BS410, Spitfire T.IX (undergoing refurb) https://www.caa.co.uk/application.aspx?catid=60&pagetype=65&appid=1&mode=summary&aircrafttype=spitfire&pageIndex=1 Still not nice to loose one like this. Had a similar incident in May 2012 - http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?116542-Advisory-Spitfire-
  5. This really was railway equipment - had the chance during the 4 hour flight to have a peek!
  6. A nice, quite leg for a change - just transporting 80 tonnes of bulky cargo to the Christmas Islands. This leg carried a Minimum MTOW restriction. This naturally limited the choice of aircraft quite a bit, considering the high MTOW. Having been contacted to transport 80 tonnes of railway equipment (what else?) to the Christmas Islands, the choice narrowed even more. Only one company was willing to work with me Yep - Volga Dneper and one of the An-124's that is in the fleet. By the time I arrive, most of the loading is complete However, the door is still open by the time that I
  7. Superb shots and story there Mikael! I'm just waiting on my aircraft to arrive - you won't be able to miss it!
  8. Last time you saw me I was escaping, unsucessfully, from J G's unfriendly friends, resulting in a rather unpleasant experience to say the least. After a few weeks of captivity, I awoke one morning to find my door unlocked and no one around. I suspected something, with the following note attached to the door: "We'll meet again sometime" Anyway, Jess had arrived into Pohnepi a few days earlier and the baton (which had been safely deposited in the murky depths of the Avro 730 - nice work Jess ) was once again in my hands. Just to find an aircraft to fly out to, appropriately enough, the M
  9. On the other hand, I've had e-mails about one of my (admittedly) many e-mail accounts when I logged in from here [ireland] saying someone was trying to log in from Iceland! Thanks for the heads-up anyway - could just be one letter/number wrong in the email account log in
  10. I don't really like Windows 8.1 (current) especially having upgraded from XP, but will wait for at least 6 months before upgrading (maybe)
  11. Not the best source in the world, but shows it coming down from the road. Picture 2 interesting http://www.unilad.co.uk/news/dramatic-new-details-of-shoreham-airshow-crash-have-been-revealed/
  12. Superb shots and story Jess - I'd better get my skates on!
  13. Mikael - if you're still having difficulties but me down for another leg - don't mind which one
  14. 70 Years Ago: The Japanese surrender, thus bringing to a close the world's deadliest war. Although the surrender documents weren't signed until the 2nd September, the cease-fire comes into effect today
  15. One of the first things you do when setting up a modern airliner is set the IRS (Inertial reference systems) up to ALIGN, then NAV. Not sure whether it gives a continuous read-out of Lat/Lon but I think it could. Not perfect but better than nothing!
  16. Deltic (A class of diesel loco close to my heart, of which 16 out of the 22 were named after regiments)
  17. Thanks for that folks - read somewhere else that he 'ejected' and have been meaning to ask the question for some time. Me and helicopters don't mix!
