In all honesty John, he wasn't anti-British, but merely wanted the best for the Navy. Around the same time there were studies done about a potential Mach 3, 80,000ft Soviet nuclear bomber and the means of interception. It was considered that the Soviet could also jump up to 105,000ft to escape. Now the alternative to the F-4 Phantom was a supersonic Harrier (just about). Whilst the study was done internally at Vickers and proposed some sort of TSR-2 alteration, it shows up a problem for the Navy, being how can a Mach 1.2 aircraft even being to catch a Mach 3 one. It's actually a Me-410 in the background March. Looks to be taken at Freeman Field, which some people are digging for the buried aircraft, and coming up with some great finds. http://freemanfieldrecoveryteam.com/ and there's a Facebook page with lots more photos
