  1. yep will be there on sat, and overnighting in the Telford Ramada on fri night.. I'll bring it with me... k
  2. thats a big + for me, I dissed all my orbx installs when I discovered they wrecked my groupings before! Might get norway now...
  3. Mike, I have a copy of the book, if youre interested? Having to downsize my bookshelves as Im moving house...
  4. Yes indeed, I think ultimately the comparison with my weather engine Opus was in my mind. This isnt a fanboy post, just it contrasted for me that Opus is being always updated for free with new features and enhancements...and FSFS was regular updates, but always at a cost, and with irritating emailed selling tactics...
  5. FS Flying School has some great features, but I stopped using it after a while, because they peed me off updating it every few months and bombarding me with repeated emails for 24 hr only upgrade offers. Then they require you to have the latest version to use newer addon packs but only offer a pathetically small discount, so the costs just racked up and up. In the end I got sick of it and binned it off When I upgraded from FSX completely to P3D they did give me a great value licence swap though to use
  6. I will echo John's comments above about the absolutely stupid passengers who thought it necessary to stop and collect their hand luggage :O Unbelievable....!! K
  7. Thoughts are with those injured and families of anyone involved. I mean no disrespect by this, but I cant help but compare yesterday's accident with this https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1952_Farnborough_Airshow_DH.110_crash(the last non aircrew fatality at a British airshow)... As an investigator I would shudder at the thought of an evidence scene being reused quite so quickly, but I also have a certain respect for those who just got on with it despite the tragedy...
  8. Its better to spend a little time getting to grips with the autogen annotation tool in the SDK for trees/buildings in a 4-5km radius IMHO.... Creating it as autogen will result in much better performance.
  9. Sorry if this is in the wrong place... I bought 2 tickets intending a family trip down to Cosford this October...but my wife has ditched out in favour of a much more dull and uninteresting hen night I'll still be travelling down with my daughter but she gets in free, so I now have a spare ticket up for grabs if anyone is intending to go and hasn't bought a ticket yet... Cheers K
  10. Thanks Mikael, that's really useful and I'll do some more research based on that. Cheers K
  11. Oh Chris, ye of little faith Climb aboard the good ship optimism
  12. I think we're all good guys here, no trolls or deliberate irritants There are nearly always multiple ways to skin a cat when it comes to FS design so its not difficult to get into a situation where people misunderstand what is being done and why. This isnt bad because it highlights different ways of doing things for different people! A case in point is that I much prefer a photoreal base for airports myself, but creating them purely using a rectangular selection in FSET will give you an awkward visual in FS because a) airports are never rectangular and b) even if you use photoreal scener
  13. Is anyone else here waiting with bated breath for the new version release?
  14. I think Chris uses a lot of UK photoscenery, and therefore its not difficult to use what is already represented there visually to align your airport elements? Of course, if you use a LC based product you dont have that visual reference already built into your scenery so you need another way to get it
  15. Thanks John, I do appreciate this will be like walking blind into a minefield snakepit. I'm sure (as you've proven) that there's a lot I don't know yet!! 1. If I can start to get to grips with some waypoints and routes that will be a win. 2. Next up I'll tie that into updating some of the VOR and NDB navaids that have changed or been removed. 3. After that I'll look at terminal waypoints and how they fit in By necessity though number 3 may have to be fudged as it is nigh on impossible that one set of updated bgl's could ever cover the endless permutations of addon airports that people may
  16. Charts work fine for me John. Perhaps the best way would be to list STARS as they are presented in the AIP? http://www.nats-uk.ead-it.com/public/index.php%3Foption=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=91&Itemid=140.html e.g. "STANDARD ARRIVAL CHART - INSTRUMENT (STAR) via KEGUN (south and southeast) - ICAO" could be shortened to "STAR - via KEGUN (S&SE)" ? Cheers K
  17. Thanks John, I've never really played with any AI files, so if my understanding was wrong then so be it I did think it entirely logical that AI flightplans would follow the same structure as a user but clearly not! My understanding there came from a post by Jon Masterson (ADE) at FSDeveloper discussing the reason why an ADE created glideslope had disappeared when some stock navdata had been changed. Perhaps he was refering to how amending data had affected the pre-determined start of AI approach and how that was interacting with ADE created elements and approaches... It will still be nece
  18. After immersing myself in this for a little while I've become increasingly annoyed by the fact that my default navdata is plain wrong and doesn't match up in any appreciable way to real life now. PlanG is brilliant, but only displays what is in the stock BGL's So, I've been turning an idea over in my head about whether it would be possible to update this stuff to make it a little more real worldy... After reading lots and lots, the general prevailing opinion of the great and the good is that it's not worth doing because it can break a lot of things like AI. The problem lies in t
