Orbx release first airport for Wales - EGCW Welshpool
Kevin Firth replied to Jess-b's topic in News and Press Releases
I will bet pretty much anything that there will be no new airfields coming from orbx for the uk in the forseeable future...may well pick this one up though -
I bought it and its quite good, but be prepared to fly long distances over sometimes not very interesting terrain

NOTAM Introducing FS Snaps from Mutley's Hangar
Kevin Firth replied to mutley's topic in Mutley's Hangar News and Announcements
sounds great, I'll take a look! Thanks Joe -
imho FTX scenery is accurate in the sense road and the general depiction of areas are pretty much in the right place. FTX scenery is not accurate in the sense that it does not look like how things are in real life at all. For example, vector roads cut through fields and roads in the base textures, some people don't mind it, But it bugs the hell out of me It is possible to create autogen using OSM data using Arno Gerretso'ns Scenproc utility. If you don't mind getting your hands dirty and spending some time it is possible to create some nice scenery for yourself. Its worth noting that Or

hmm, dont know about that, its interesting, but has drawbacks such as: 1. its bloody expensive 2. it requires bloody expensive hardware to generate the framerates necessary to avoid sickness 3. I am really not that rich 4. noone AFAIK has yet come up with a way of making it work when youre a speccy four eyes like me 5. by the time I can afford it I will either be dead, or my children will have consumed it fo fund either a university education/the million £ deposit required to purchase any property in the UK/a drug fuelled party lifestyle (delete as appropriate) K

hi Kieran, Joe's advice is solid, but I would expect to have to upgrade your GPU if you want to experience all of P3D's visual loveliness That may require you to get a power supply with a higher rating I'm afraid, depending on your choice of GPU...

Talked with Ben this morning and he says use the code Q40050 - gets a 50% discount on the full price, cant say fairer than that! k

yes it was, Maybe Ben would do you the sane deal that was on then if you ask nicely?

There are also the Airline2Sim tutorial vids, priced about £10-12 I think? They are IMHO better than just youtube vids as a) they are professionally authored; and b) teach you using a genuine type rated line pilot doing the flying. I think theyre really good. K

Product Review Chillblast Superfortress 4 Flight Sim PC
Kevin Firth replied to mutley's topic in News and Press Releases
Some very nice features at not too high a cost, I think if I were buying a machine for P3D3 now I'd opt for a GTX980ti GPU though, both for the added VRAM for running at 4k resolution, and the added GPU power since autogen (particularly buildings) in P3D3 has been moved much more to the GPU now... That said, for anyone running FSX only, a 970 should be more than sufficient . Nice looker as well, (the PC joe sorry!) K -
Dai - I missed you You were right behind me at 04:36 though

Which version of P3D do you have and what made you choose it?
Kevin Firth replied to J G's topic in Prepar3D Series
Nope, it really doesn't say that on their page. The word commercial doesn't feature at all in relation to a developer licence. What they actually say is "The program is also open to any individual or business who is interested in using Prepar3D to develop applications and add-ons." The inclusion of individual and business specifically distinguishes the two categories, and 'develop apps and add-ons' clearly encompasses freeware, donationware, payware or simply personal use only They are big and clever enough over at LM to make it clear that commercial intent is necessary if that is -
Which version of P3D do you have and what made you choose it?
Kevin Firth replied to J G's topic in Prepar3D Series
Dont worry yourself about the minutiae, LM don't. I am a card carrying student (woohoo!) but there are no checks as to eligibility, other than that ones paypal account is valid Any issue as to which licence is valid or not is entirely between yourself and your conscience (or god, if that way inclined). Yep, in the morning we figured out how to change views using the hat switch, then graduated later on in the afternoon to using full flight controls on Jess' machine (minus rudder pedals ofc!) where we took great delight in repeatedly and deliberately crashing... great fun Sorry I didnt get chance to talk longer with more people but a certain little someone stole most of my attention It was good to finally catch up with a lot of you though! good times... k

Which version of P3D do you have and what made you choose it?
Kevin Firth replied to J G's topic in Prepar3D Series
Currently using v2.5 - migrating to v3 when released later today.. motive: I am a tech geek and affordability aside, find it shameful not to be on the latest and greatest.. seriously though, I find P3Ds immersion much better because of the improvements licence: academic $60, because I am actually a student still, but if not I'd happily swallow the $200 cost of a professional licence comparison: for me, P3D2.5 is better looking, better performing and more difficult to OOM. hopefully v3 should look at least as good, perform better and if reports from beta testers are correct, almost impossi -
Nice one Joe, I'll be purchasing tomorrow and checking it out as well. The price of progress is sometimes steep but I'm all for improvements
