The Great Australian Air Rally 2011 - GAAR 2011
ddavid replied to ddavid's topic in MHFC Captains Lounge
John, the Hints, Tips and FAQs page, here says: Does this help? Actually, I approached each airfield, worked out what would probably be the 'active', joined the circuit at the appropriate point - from my point of view - and landed. My traffic is non-existant and I don't bother with M.S. ATC either. And, as you said, with a Leg length of 220 nm, the odd 30 seconds ain't going to matter much! Look forward to the PIREP... Cheers - Dai. -
Like Joe, I've had W7 64-bit for 18 months now and can't really report many FSX related defficiencies apart from the add-on scenery glytch. Compared to Vista, W7 flies! No worries there, then! However, be careful when you install FSX and get the order of the SP's and Acceleration correct before you install any add-ons. Good Luck! :thumb: Cheers - Dai.

Rob - are you still up for Leg 7? Be great if you could. John will be posting his PIREP in the next couple of days - so there's no real rush until the 20th, anyway. Thanks if you will! Cheers - Dai. -

Ah-Ha! I smell a Pop-Up Panel Tutorial in the making!?! :th_smiles73: Commiserations, Kieran - my FSX is a bit unsteady at the moment, too - but thanks for persevering, Mate! Cheers - Dai. -
Well done, E.J. - that was an epic take off, eh?!? The flight time looks good - thanks for getting us another step towards the finish. Oh, yes - Kieran! On Leg 9, after the T&G at YMBA, did you fly to the "... middle of the largest island of the Finder's Group, west of Cape Melville"?? Andrew set that as Waypoint 2 and the diversion might be the source of your missing mileage? Whatever, Lads, we're making great progress - Thanks! Cheers - Dai.

Now I know why you've been quiet, John! Is this pop up panel using FS Panel Studio? Looks good - particularly as the default DC-3 is a bit lacking in the navigation department... Look forward to your PIREP for Leg 6! Cheers - Dai. -
Sounds great, John - please ask if there's a screen shot or two - love to see this! Cheers - Dai.
-
Sharon!! Cheers - Dai.

First Class Simulations have announced their latest app... Yes, it's - Surgery Simulator More info here I can't wait for the screen shots... (Where's that bucket?!? - Ed) Nuff said. Cheers - Dai.

Kieran - that time, for 313 nm, gives you an average speed of 218 knots!! Are you sure the time shouldn't be 140.01 minutes?!? Cheers - Dai. -
Looks good, J.D. - thanks for the HU! Cheers - Dai.

Just heard from the GAAR organiser - seems that the email PIREPs have gone astray - again! But I've re-sent the info, so we're still in. @ Kieran - as Tim says, start timing at beginning of take-off roll and stop timing when you've landed and stopped. You can use a separate Timer, or just make a note of start and finish times (and subtract!!). @ John - thanks for doing the homework - the flight's the easy bit! BTW - Leg 7 is still up for grabs... Cheers - Dai. -
Hope you know which way the DC-2 mixture levers go! Nice pics - thanks for sharing. Cheers - Dai.

Contacted Andrew - the Leg 1 PIREP was delayed by Cyclone Yasi! Should be up by the next Leg report... @ Rob - I'll PM John and E.J. @ Kieran - thanks for the Leg 9 offer, it's yours, Mate! Which leaves Leg 7 - anyone??? Will update the Roster when I can... -_- Cheers - Dai. -
Bite the bullet, Andrew!! The Aerosoft Venice-X scenery is brilliant. Cheers - Dai.
-
Thanks for the HU, Kieran! And you beat Rob by almost an hour - well done, Mate! I've had a closer look at this 'UH-1' from Aerosoft - the manual (downloadable pdf) is very good indeed. The flight dynamics include torque induced yaw, which means that the designers have taken this Huey quite seriously. I'm sure it'll be a hit - and the price is good, too. No doubt we'll see some screen shots on the Forum soon... Cheers - Dai.
-
Well done Tim - did you have difficulty spotting the runway?!? Cheers - Dai.

Finished January theme - Iconic aircraft
ddavid replied to mutley's topic in Screenshot Contests Archive
When I think of an iconic aircraft, there's only one for me: This screen shot is unedited, but it took a little bit of thought to get things right. What do you think? Cheers - Dai. -
Sorry, Stu - I've been using the Dodo-Sim 206 for a few months and, I guess, I've got too immersed in 'rotor-head' terminology! TIY is for Torque Induced Yaw - the counter-inertia effect of increasing (or decreasing) the rotor-blade angle of attack (controlled by the collective) when you want to ascend or descend. Depending on the direction of rotation of the main rotor, when you pull up the collective, to ascend, you induce a turning effect (yaw) on the fuselage. This torque induced yaw (TIY) has to be balanced by an 'opposing' turning torque from the tail rotor - controlled by the pedals. So

Well done - excellent video! This is a must have add-on for me, too... Cheers - Dai.
-
But does it have TIY, I wonder?!? Cheers - Dai.
